Why is it that I haven't seen anyone adapt a stock (and effective) VW engine and trunk lid supports to a speedster?...What is it that I don't understand??

THUMBS UP! Can you post details - make/model strut, # of lift, length? I still have the pin with a chain on it.

This will help. Let me know if you have more questions.
Do you have a Vintage Speedster?
Years ago either Performance or Tweeks carried a mechanical support that replaced the struts on 911 front trunk lids as they were prone to grow weak. I couldn't find them on the internet now but they were very similar to these.. http://www.sugatsune.net/Industrial_Component_Hardware/Products/productdetails.cfm?CATID=3&SUBCATID=2&PRODUCTID=LB-500
There are a number of different styles and sizes of these type of supports and one could probably adapt them to hold up a speedy rear deck lid. these are not the scissor type but the sliding type. Stainless steel should hold up to our needs...
I wonder if anyone has attempted to create a system for the front lid? Two struts, one on each side?
I believe the SAS cars have that setup in front.
