Did you check shipping cost? You can buy brand new for $299 on the Samba.
REALLY? same rackw/leather straps?
Would it fit a VS body?
I've been eyeballing one to prep for the SLO Cruise in June...
NO idea...it is THEORETICALLY standard as it fits ON GRILL as it appears in pictures.
I would guess yes but I am certainly NOT expert..
It fits all - even the later twin grilles. You may need long stainless steel bolts and chrome sheathing (Lowes) due to fiberglass engine lid. The now $319 SAMBA are stainless steel reproductions - they are well made. Ebay has same for $299. I'm guessing the straps are $150 new - forget what Dusty was getting for his.

This one is CHROME as is obvious from pics. A bit different...
Those do not appear to be Dusty straps.
They look like those made by Leiberings leatherworks. Hard to tell from the pictures.
100$ new through their eBay store... SMC also sells the same straps for 190$.

Woody's custom shop also makes their version of the strap for 99$. For Reuter and Leitz racks.
If you can verify that it's chrome and not polished stainless I would be interested.
Ad says CHROME, Dealer sayss CHROME?

The BUILD SHEET, 2008, says $840 for rack and $115 for mounting brackets....dealer says CHROME but I am not a metallurgist expert AND all things point to CHROME in context with CAR/PRICE/BUILD/PICTURES.
Banzai - that is an awesome Speedster that you bought!
Love the sound of the older 911 engines (2.7 circa 1977). I'm sure you will be the envy of everyone at the car events you go to!
Hope you share pics of you cruising the island in that bad boy!

Still, It may just be the rack that is readily available. If it was a Reutter that would be a different story, How much do you want?
THANKS MUSBJIM, I am looking forward to seeing it live!
Marty G: not sure about "Still, It may just be the rack that is readily available. If it was a Reutter that would be a different story," ??
In any case...make me a reasonable offer for it.....
There is a REUTER on EBAY for $500 and Leitz "STYLE" for $350/$395?
I was TOLD that there is a DIFFERENCE between LEITZ and LEITZ style: I was told that LEITZ is CHROME AND the LEATHER STRAPS are obviously steps above other stuff. I would guess, like all things, its a matter of PERSONAL PREFERENCE/Dollars and CENTS/and DOLLARS and SENSE. Toyota makes a great car but some BENZ drivers wouldn';t be caught dead in a Japanese car!
The LEITZ info online(GOOGLE) confirms that they DO make CHROME LUGGAGE racks and mine fits that profile and appearance........
Apparently the leather straps are $75 each NEW.....

above EBAY AD for LEITZ rack:$495
Fur der Kinder - does stop engine air flow though.
Nicht verstehen Sie Haben nein
That is the 10 gallon hat of racks!
Give that kid a gallon can of beans and a spoon, and you'll have a source of enriched air intake for the carbs.
