Ok, here a shot before I pull my Dells off tomorrow to see what I did/missed. Some of you may have experienced this so...

New engine, usual build stuff with 36 Dells. CB electric fuel pump putting out the advertised 3.5 psi. I also have a Holley regulator with a gauge to verify whats at the firewall -all good. Have the recommended venturis and other metering stuff with a rebuild kit.

It starts. Idles fine but won't accelerate. Dies out. The drivers side has a small flow from the accelerator nozzle but the passenger side has zip. I've adjusted the float level a few times (to even allow a high float level). Just doesn't seem to be fuel there. Used clear filters to ensure flow.

Also hooked up a new tank and started the process before reading how I should have cleaned it first. Concerned that I may have gotten cosmolene in the system I changed the filters again.

I'm guessing I missed something so I'm pulling them off tomorrow to double-check settings and going to blow every passage clear. I have the Dell book to go by.

I'll gladly welcome (as always) any direction from this Dell-friendly group.

Yeah, especially the accelerator pump diaphragm, jet and ports.  Any crud that gets into the bowls is pulled down into the bottom of the bowl to a port running directly to the accelerator pump.  Pull the pump off the side of the housing and you should be able to thoroughly clean everything in there.

Cleaning the accelerator pump jets can be a MEGA-PITA so remove them (they pop right out, once the cap is removed, but they tend to get stuck in the housing and may need some persuasion) then try blowing 20-30#'s of compressed air BACK through the jet from the discharge hole.  It's really tiny so figure out which side of the jet is "down" when assembled, find that teeny hole and blast back through it.  You can also use a fine wire to probe through the length of the jet tube from the cap end and get anything out of there.  IIRC it's also big enough to get the nozzle of a can of carb cleaner in there to blast it out.

You got my cell #  If not, PM me and I'll give it to you for backup.

And that would be right. The narrowing was so slight I couldn't tell but that was correct. Struggled so long I started doubting. But after hours of re-cleaning and double checking that the accelerator pump squirted like a kid full of lemonade it started up and accelerated nicely.

Breaking it in today with my son before he leaves for college. Sun is out, car runs, have mimosas, going to be a great day. Will post a like on YouTube.

As always, thanks!!!

Where does your son go to college?   I remember a summer of classes (1971?) in Boston when I was changing majors - doing classes in Summer was agony, but riding my 10-speed all over Boston/Cambridge in goo d weather was a lot of fun.

Sorry I'm late but, yes, the numbers go at the top of the venturii - otherwise they won't go all the way in.

Don't forget the Hebert's show (VolksFair) on July 29'th in Shrewsbury.   Nice, small show, nice folks, all VW or derivatives. Tom Marantz is coming with his Suby-Coupe, I'll be there with Pearl and they always seem to bring in one or two cars I've never seen before.

Hey Gordon!

Thanks! I was wondering when the Volks Fair was. I'll be there. I'll be at a wine festival in Maine for 2 days before that so I may have red eyes but...

Funny story, we were working on getting our son into the USNA but after three trips to Maryland there was a paperwork snafoo so he got the big "You didn't follow orders.." so he's now at Mass Maritime. I actually think it worked out for the best. Fate is funny. He gets his head shaved soon and he's actually happy about it -go figure. Yes, I got my undergrad in Cambridge and work for Admissions but did he listen to his old man who interviews 7-10 kids a year? Who's a Marshall for incoming freshmen? No. What does the old man know?
