Liquidating Carl Berry's spare parts stash!

Hi Everyone,

I wish I saw this thread much earlier in our exploration and uncovering. My name is also Matt and we are the ones doing the Estate Sale for Carl's family. Here are the images I have of the 2 tops in question. I think Bill is working on getting the white top.

By the way, these look very similar in size and actually measured almost the same overall width and length. I would also say they are very close to the same height. I tried to follow Gordon's instructions the best I could. The only big difference is what appears to me to be the width of the doors. The white top measured 27-28 inches from front center to horizontal point where doors meet, where as the black one measured 23-24 inches for the same measurement. The more detailed close-up images are of the white top.

We definitely have a number of the items that have been mentioned here including the transmission, tires, 2 sets of rims (one set is pretty rough), the HI-Torque starter, the BN2 heaters and a B-4 heater, Subaru engine with all wiring and computer and I found what seems to be part of the KEP conversion kit. The link above has pictures of the original deck lid too.

Is anyone planning to attend the sale?

Thanks for posting. I am sure it will help those interested in the hardtops. 

I live in Virginia and would love to get to the estate sale as I am in the middle of my build. The Suby engine/transaxle and more might be something I could use or might use. At this point I don't see myself getting there but who knows...

Are you planning on doing the normal no reserve auction or will there be reserves? If something does not sell are you going to offer it up on line or here?

We only run Estate Sales at this time, not auctions. The big difference here is that everything is priced and there is no waiting for an auctioneer. Essentially, we setup the home like a store and our goal is to do the best we can for our client (the Estate) while offering fair and reasonable prices for our customers.

We come in and do a tremendous amount of work from cleaning, organizing, research and pricing. I have a great resource, my mother, who has been in the business over 30 years and is still running sales on the Eastern Shore in VA. We are a little different that when we are done, the house is ready for the new buyers, or whatever the plan is, and everything is cleaned out. It gets sold, donated or disposed of.

In the case of any parts remaining, Matt Berry has asked us to leave those for him. I am not sure what his plans will be at that point.

In the near future, we will have our online store and also online auctions. At the present time, we just don't have the storage or manpower to deal with selling items individually. That is coming.

I love cars myself and especially German engineering. I've had several Karmann Ghias and Bugs and my son (and I) restored and 1966 Beetle when he was 14. He's now a Senior at Morrisville State in NY in their Auto Program and works for Performance Imports in Danbury. His goal is to work for Porsche. We love the vintage Porsche/VWs and I hope to own one of the classics myself, like what you guys treasure here. 

We come across all kinds of things and you never know what's in that next garage, basement or barn. If we run across anything this group might be interested in, I'll be sure to post it.

As far as any remaining parts from my Dad's stash, anything that doesn't sell with the estate sale will be left for me as Matt Greger stated. I will eventually need to pick them up and will be listing them on the site.

It was cinched down to the pallet so tight that it is now concaved on top. The fiberglass is so brittle and flimsy (1/8" thick) that I'm going to have to completely glass up the entire top (inside and out) to make it work...Might try the baby window look while I'm at it. 

I knew Greyhound to Hawaii was going to be difficult trip.  At least you go the pieces.  Did window for it make it too?

I did not have time to open the box yet as I picked it up while working.

Chip Foose did a oval window in a featured coupe it was awesome  !

I can't believe the way it arrived, I didn't get any pictures of it as it was palleted but will be calling dad's friend to talk to him more about condition when it was shipped and get back to you later today.

I can't believe the shipper didn't even try to support the window opening.

If it was insured file a claim you might get enough out of said claim ( if they even pay) to finish the top

Nope, all responsibility is being denied. First shipper/pick-up said it was already cracked on the pallet. It was put on a pellet that was smaller than the top so the rear window/lip was hanging out about 8". At some point, it had to of been forklifted and jammed into something causing further damage.

It is a Plastic Dynamic Brand top.

Really sorry to see that. It's fixable but damn.

Yes, just 1000 times more work than I planned on...Oh well, still less than my original plan to make one from scratch.

The surgery has begun. Taking this in a new modern "Carrera GT" type of build keeping my turtle back tonneau in place. Cold weather is not an issue and sun shade is the goal, I will delete the rear window and use a screen of some sort...stay tuned!
