Believe it or not, we had a 4.3 quake that was after downgraded to 3.8. Living in the Midwest my whole life this was a new and scary experience for us. We were about 10 miles from the center of the quake. It sounded like something huge fell on the house like an airplane. The trembling lasted less than a minute and then everything was quite. I know you west coaster sleep right through this type of quake but for a newbie this was very bizarre.

BTW- My 13 year old said "Dad that was cool" I have a different perspective on the event.

Sandy and I had been in San Diego all of one week when they had a local earthquake. Both of us, being from New York state and Michigan, had NEVER experienced any such thing. We immediately ran out of the house, only to be confronted by our neighbor who was raking his lawn. "Welcome to California" he said, and calmly went back to raking.
