Andrew:

There are a few owners in the Charlotte area. Go up to the "Settings" tab and fill out the part about your local mail "Zip" code, then click on "Registry" and it will list other owners from closest to farthest from you.

It might be worth your time to take a ride to Carlisle May 15 - 18 this year and see 50 or so of the Speedsters and Spyders gathered there, as well as 3 or 4 of the more noted manufacturers. Talk to everyone (we're all pretty talkative) and see what you like.

Thanks for the info guys. I've been thinking about going to Carlisle but I was hoping some of you speedster owners out there would be coming to Charlotte for the Auto Fair. I live about 20 minutes away from LMS in Huntersville.

Here's a link to the Auto Fair.

I've been researching and dreaming about a speedster for nearly two years now (gosh, has it been that long?). Anyway, I'm pretty confident in knowing what I want now. I've only seen one speedster in person so far and would like to see some more just to make sure I know what I'm getting into before the big purchase.
Andrew - The Beck dealer in Cornelius is just north of you, and there is also J. Stefano (IM and Thunder Ranch) in the same area. You could also plan a weekend trip down to Charleston and test drive my Beck. Kinda nice down here this time o' year.

Unfortunately I'll be in lovely Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on bid'ness on the day of the Auto Fair. I'll repeat the suggestion about attending Carlisle. Not only is it a lot of fun, but it's the best chance you'll get to see a bunch of these in one spot - probably drive a bunch as well.
That's true....We should have a decent representation of IM's, VS's, CMC's, Beck/Chamonix, SAW/SAS, customs and this year, a Thunder Ranch. A couple of years back, we even had an Envemo Cabriolet there (THAT threw us for a while - we thought it was a steel one it was finished so nice).

You should be able to look at and drive representative models of each.

Well, I went by and saw Ed Wayland on Saturday. Seems to be a good guy. So far he only has one speedster but he has a couple more coming along with a spyder. He doesn't seem to know as much about the speedsters. He's more of a cobra guy. I'll be going to see him again in a few weeks to test drive a couple speedsters. He'll have one with the 1600cc and the rest will be 1915cc. I'm trying to decide between the 1915 and the 2110 so this comparison should give me an idea of how the 2110 would feel. Best thing about it is his shop is about 10 minutes from home!

One last thing. Would it be best to buy from a local dealer or buy direct from Special Edition?
You usually do better money-wise going directly to the manufacturer, BUT having the dealer only 10 minutes away would be worth a little extra coin. Hopefully they will have someone there who knows these cars.

By the way, I have a 1915 in mine, and I really like it. It's quick and smooth, but Gordon's 2110 (which he built himself) is very nice, and can run away from me. It's a matter of $$$$$$$. I'd talk to Carey Hines and ask his advice.
