I am just going to have to make a trip the weekend before to visit you and Stan, you know to test the routes. And you would you believe I miss the Burger Barge.

It would be good to get some feedback from last years attendees on how they felt about the two routes, morning and afternoon. We aim to please (well we point in that general direction, sometimes).

Boy, how easily we get replaced.

We were also going to bring a Hottie friend for Danny's right seat

We are on vacation from the 9th to the 15th.  I'll be with Bernie Madoff in Palm Beach.  Oh, never mind I just remembered that he is some NC jail.  I heard he is in charge of the slush fund now.

The week before is better for us but no big deal, do what is best for the out of town folks.

Lane, that'll be in Sept, when I do Carmel by the Sea and Highway 1. I'll be wearing ruts in I80, eating smoked almonds and staying in flea-bag motels on the way out. Jeanie will fly in and we'll do a nice week on the central coast. She'll fly home, and I'll do the banzai-run back (possibly on I40).

Heaven will be like this.

Stan, send me a PM about this.  Inquiring minds want to know.

Corn Daze started to coincide with Cory's annual trip to the Peoples' Republic of Stanistan (on his way to St. Louis) in late June/July. Bob is local to me, and he's been invaluable in helping me put together a fun weekend in the 2 yeasrs we've been inviting other guys to join us.

Since Cory is not making the trip this summer, we have an open field in front of from a planning standpoint. Having this event before the last week of June is a very good idea-- otherwise the corn is too high to see around a lot of blind corners on the drives. And there is a LOT of driving involved-- the whole thing is pretty much scenic and speedy driving from little cafe to little burger-bar to little ice-cream stand, etc. We cover a fair amount of miles DURING the event.

From the initial posts, it looked like one of the first two weekends in June were going to work for most of the "regulars". I chose the second weekend for a few reasons, mostly weather related. Early June can be glorious. It can also be cold and rainy. It has often been very, very wet. There are no guarantees, but the further in we get into June, the better the chance of good weather.

There's another factor. June 6, 7, & 8 is a big deal in my little hometown, but perhaps it'd be just the ticket to coincide with Corn Daze.

Every year, first weekend in June, Tremont hosts the annual "Tremont Turkey Festival". Think "county fair" on a more personal and "micro" level, and you've got it. We're the oldest town festival in the area (this one will be 49 years). There's a carnival, bed-races, etc.-- but the big thing is the food. Spit-roasted turkey sandwiches, strawberry shortcake, etc.-- all very, very good. This little festival draws a LOT of people-- we are cooking over 1500 whole turkeys a year now. There's a little bitty car-show on Sunday, which I can make sure we are pre-registered for.

The whole thing is a kind of small-town Americana which is lost to 99% of you. We are usually involved with food prep for a few hours on Saturday-- but thinking this over, having Corn Daze 3 overlay it would be a hoot. We could take an hour or 2 on Saturday evening to get a turkey sandwich, some strawberry shortcake, and listen to whoever is on the main-stage.

I think you guys would love it. If it's doable for Bob, and the Chi-town boys can GUARANTEE they'll be there (I'm talkin' to you, Joe Fortino), we'll make it happen.

What say you, gentlemen?

Sorry. I actually think it will be a fun weekend. Tremont is a great little town at the edge of Stanistan, but outside the Palace walls. We could create the HQ at one of the chain hotels in Morton, just a short distance away, and cruise out in probably 3 or 4 directions from there as well. Plenty of local restaurants and lots of great roads.

If the weather is good, it's perfect. If the weather isn't good, there's euchre.

It's true, we're probably not in for this year. There are several different events we will be attending, but the St. Louis run isn't happening until October; looks like we're getting married on the 18th in Ellisville, Missouri.

Good call on the corn and blind corners. But for you guys on the fence (who haven't been to Stanistan), I have never had more fun DRIVING at an even than we did cutting loose and just letting the car eat last summer.

There's a lot to be said for taking those 90-degree corners at a field's edge at speeds where your seat bolsters really have to do their jobs -- and Stan's got to be right up there with Kelly Frazer as one of the best drivers in the SOC for that kind of driving.

If I could throw the Speedster in a suitcase and fly out, I'm sure Jeni and I would be there. We just have too much going on to take the five days needed to drive out and back. Count us in for shirts, though.

And those Midwestwen cats know where to go for food and drink, too. That steakhouse was fantastic!
