Looking for a 356 with auto trans!!

I am looking for a flared preferable or reg tub 356, but has to have auto transmission.

If that's the case I'm guessing you'd have to get an Intermeccanica; although I haven't seen any flared cars by them.

You can get the shiftomatic transmission, no clutch required. Just add it to the car. By the way, was this first posted on April 1?

thanks Jack, no i posted it a couple of days ago..whats the process for putting in a shiftomatic??? and where on the east coast can it be done. thanks again for the info.

The stick-omatic is setup just like the regular transaxle. Fits right in. They can be pretty pricy. I'd say a lot of shops can help you. I know a guy that can probably tell us more. I'll talk to him in the next day or two.

Felix, shop on TheSamba. There are a couple located on there. You can buy a whole set up. Or, even buy a car for about $2000 that has one operational, and simply peddle the car after you remove the stickomatic. The purchase can put a regular transaxle in with a hydralic clutch. If you are still building the car, just modify the pan from a stickomatic

Auto-stick items are cheap and they bolt in. You can buy everything you need for less than $100. At almost every swap-meet I've been to I've seen them at give away prices. Find the best pieces you can because finding someone to service them can be a issue.

A lot of people take out the auto-stick to put in a 4spd.I had a auto-stick Ghia for about 5yrs. It worked well and I didnt have any problems with it. It was a welcome change to driving a 4spd in traffic.


The VW service manual (orange) book as a section on how a auto-stick works (and how to repair it). You should read up on it.
