My 66 Ghia is in the body shop for a few weeks. I took it apart to a rolling chasis last week. On removing the fuel guage I cut (doh) the cable to the sender. I found out later that it is removed from the top of the cap. So I am looking for this wire. What is it called? You think this is a normal car part store part?

Mike,

Nice to have a new member in the club, I
"joined" in '94 when I cut the cable in my Coupe.

Those little things are available from almost any VW parts distributor, no big deal. Try The Real Source, or BFY, or Vintage Parts, or Koch's, or The Samba, or check any Hot VW's or VW Trends magazine and you'll be hooked up.

I just asked for, "that stupid little cable that connects the sender to the gas gauge, the one that I just cut in half."

Luck,

TC

I wired up my gas sender about last and was just about out of extra wire, so I just used a piece of 16 gauge, two-wire "zip-cord", like that used for speakers (one copper colored, one silver). Put a 1/4" female fast-on on one lead for the center tab, and a ring-tab on the other for ground on one of the mounting screws and I was finished.

I remember my old bug had some sort of woven sheath over the gas sender wire, probably to protect it from chafing, but I didn't use anything like that.

Not a big current circuit (until it doesn't work!) so anything 14 - 18 gauge is fine.
