All,

I am looking for a Vintage Speedster wiring diagram for cars before 2003.  I did a search here and found some diagrams that Brian posted but these seem to be post 2003.  I also found some other diagrams but when you blow them up you cant read them.

Any body have a pre-2003 diagrams they can post/send/direct me to?  I am happy to make copies/PDFs and post them to the library.

Ferndale,

Thanks so much for putting that up.  I am sure there is much value in it.

I unfortunately am looking for a wiring diagram for a pre-2003 Vintage Speedster.  I got the wiring diagram from the library, but it is not correct for my car.  I dont have ceramic fuses, so it looks like Wolfgang is looking for an even older version.

Best bet is to contact Vintage and ask them, assuming they built it as a turn-key. Unfortunately, there are many different harnesses available and many combinations of parts that could have been used in your specific car if it was customer assembled, so finding a diagram the actually matches your car may be impossible.

This is a basic diagram that could cover all the needed connections: http://www.vintagebus.com/wiring/bug-66+67.jpg

Though you'd only have 1 backup light, no dome light or switches, and you probably don't have the dimmer switch in the turn signal stalk. Other concern is you might be using a different flasher/emergency relay or an alternator vs generator.

Were you just wanting this for documentation, or did you have a specific problem you were trying to solve?

I had hoped someone here, with the plethora of VS's and experience, would have one before I sought it out at Vintage.

Whilre replacing the stock Borsch coil with a new Pertronix one, I found a black wire. I am not sure what it was connected to before.  I will have to get under the car and chase it back. Conventional wisdom in electronics is that red is power and black is ground - that dosnt appear to be true in automotive, so I dont want to randomly connect it to anything.

I agree you probably want to find out what the other end of that wire connects to before connecting it. But just from that diagram I posted, it could be coil power, choke and idle cutoff solenoid power from coil, or power for the reverse light from coil. If the car runs, it can't be coil power. The choke/idle cutoff is on the carb so it should be easy to see. Is your reverse light working (with ignition on)?
