Hello folks, New here. just picked up a project one of these. cam with a old original vw motor and tranny. not familiar with VW. Would like to find a builder/supplier of engines for these.. maybe even in central fl, and maybe have them install it. if not I'll ship it in, and do it myself.

its a speedster

Thanks in advance.

Always nice to get one local - saves shipping and issue resolution.

Try Fisher Buggies in nearby Tampa, FL:

NEW COMPLETE TURNKEY 1600cc MOTOR          $3949.99

They can build up to  building a complete 2180cc stoker motor.

TRANSAXLE D w/3.88 R&P                                          $1,469.99

Ouch $5,500 - if you can fabricate how about a Subbie?

Also Sundance Bug & Buggy in Plant City:

If interested - I have a complete '75 1.8L Porsche 914 engine (80 hp) with dual Solex carbs or a '75 2.0L Porsche 914 engine (106 hp) with dual Holey-Weber carbs. I'm 7 hr drive.  I have used trans too.

Thank you. I can fab up what ever. Used to build off road jeeps in my shop in ny. but would rather keep it simple .. seems like alot of money for stock motors.. Some one said use my engine , swap intake to dual carb.. maybe the best thing for now. i may not like it. i will run a compression check on the one i have, when i get a minute. then run it. any idea where compression should be on a stock motor?

subaru motors fit aye? with fuel injection? or older ones?

what are you getting for those motors?

You can search (Spy glass icon) here but David Stroud used a Subbie with a Weber carb on his Speedster replica.  EdNova used a Fuel Injected Subbie with a modified wiring harness on his MGTD replica.  Both are DIY guys - not professional mechanics. VW guys are converting bugs and transporters to Subbie power.  The 5 speed Subbie trans can be too - check out Subarugears.com.

On a VW engine 120-130 psi is good compression ---- below 100 is not good. Too much difference in reading is not good either.

Sent you a PM (Private Dialog).
