I want to prep a 912 for a tub. It needs to be redone anyway so my question is this: What do you out there who have actually done this before recommend for level of aggressiveness? I have other big HP cars so don't need this to be a rocketship but I do want a build that will give me as much grunt as possible without making it friable or fryable. I also don't want to spend a bloody fortune on it tho as long as I have it apart....
Thanks for any input or ideas.

Rick,
If I understand your question correctly you're looking to put a 912 engine in a speedster replica?
If so, as far as I know they did make a 1750cc kit for the 912 engine. Or you could go the route of putting a Type 4 in it and that can get expensive when you're looking for HP. It's been said many times - you need to decide on what you want in regard to the set Reliable HP costs money.
We're here to help but if you ARE looking to put a 912 engine in a speedster you can probably get some very good info on one of the 912 forums.
I rebuilt a 912 about 18 years ago and it cost me $5,000, not including my labour. The NPR big bore kit which cost me about $300 back then I think is no longer available, or if it is expect to pay a lot more. The cost of parts is the same if not more than a 911 because these are Porsche parts afterall. Depends on what you want out of a build too...I had all the sheet metal blasted and powder coated, all the fasteners Cad II plated, complete valve and head job with new springs, etc, rockers refurb, con rods reconditioned, flywheel lightened and balanced to clutch, etc, etc. The list can go on as far as your pocket book will allow.

Read some of the late Harry Pellows books on the 912/356 engines such as the ABC of Porsche Engines (or something like that).
