Peter,
I can't help you much here in close-by Windsor. I have a scratch built spyder that is nothing close to the nice fit and finish of the "production" speedsters. Take David's advice and check-in to Paso Robles for answers to all of your questions (which car, which color, which options, etc.). It will all be laid out on the grass for you to decide.
I can help you with the answer to one question you didn't ask. Does a speedster make any practical sense? I'll answer it with a question of my own: Did you go outside and notice the weather any time this past weekend?
We live in the middle of the best back-road driving in the country. Saturday I took a little sprint up Skaggs Point Road (above Lake Sonoma). Stopped along side the road to take a break and looked clear across the State all the way to the snow capped Sierras. Not bad . . . .
See you in Paso.
Mark
