Hi, have an Ansa exhaust on and 1835 Dual Weber and it is too loud. Typical quad exhaust. Looks like it has the baffles in it but still too much. Also touches the body and probably transmits vibrations. Was thinking of trying the "Hideaway" from CBPerformance but nodody knows if it will fit. Looks OK and there is plenty of space under the wheel well, but the question is will the header flange and pipe clear the rear apron. Anyone have the answer, or another suggestion? I don't want to go expensive custom and don't want a stock VW soooo.....??

Thanks,
Jay

Hey, I was really thinking about the Hideaway but was told by CB performance that "it just won't work" nobody was helpful but I have deduced that it is because the back valance curves under. I can't get any measurements but I expect that it means cutting out the panel for the bolt on muffler pipe to clear. Any one have experience here?

thanks, Jay

Selling the car by the way. see classifieds for Champaigne Yellow for sale
Jay,
The Hideaway does fit, I've used this on a nunmber of speedsters.

There is a small welded bracket on the exhaust systemthat needs a slight tweak to line up with the 2x2 frame where it gets anchored on the car. The "tail pipe" bends downward and clears the rolled speedster valance. It's like this exhaust was designed with a speedster in mind. The exhaust has a quiet but mellow note.
Jay,Michael,
I have that exact exhaust system shown in Alans post.
I can adjust the valves without taking the muffler off. I've even removed rockers and pushrods with the muffler in place.
As Alan stated, this exhaust system fits like it was made for Speedster replicas and sounds good too.

Alan: Talk to me about that dog-leg oil filler thingy. That would be a nice addition. Meanwhile, I have a similar looking exhaust set-up on my car (muff at the side, spaghetti pipes everywhere else), but seems it's a bit bigger, and the outlet comes around under the muff/pipes and exits in a single pipe at the center of the car. JPS said this system works well w/ large engine (I have a 2332) and allows conversation in the car when cruising. I do not know what it is called, but could make/post some pictures and would ask JPS for particulars, if that would help. The larger muff. is right up against the VC, so it has to be dropped to gain access. Once you figure how to do it, it is an extra 10 - 15 mins to the total job. The system was designed to be easy-on, easy-off, or so I was told. But not as easy as another extractor system I saw last night that was held on by a slip fit and four springs. Made to come off in about 30 sec.
I still would like to see a sidewinder verion of the tuck away with a flowmaster muffler and baffle tip.

Alan has spoken on this as have I,

It would have better ground clearance and be just as easy to fit.

And it could also be fitted with quiet muffler if you wanted.

Its a idea thats way overdue.
