Hello All - Anybody happen to have or know of a pair of speedster seats available, prefereably with upper and lower rails/adjusters for my (early) IM. I checked with Kirk at VS who has nice seats but his pricing has gone up to $425/ea. not including rails with adjustors ($40 additional for each for those). Russ at Fibersteel has some that he makes his out of Steel reinforced fiberglass so they are stronger but...they are $495 for BARE FRAMES if I heard right. The early IM's (VW pan based) are pretty tight for seating area so the seat width has to be no wider than 20". Mine are very old style with the long seat cushion and are losing their shape (not comfortable)Thanks!

Help Jeff - Agreed it would be an option to reupholster if they can reshape the shells, do you have any reference to shops that would do this? I suppose I can start looking locally as well, I'm in So Cal pretty close to my bud MusBJIM so I'll check his resources as well. Good info and I would be looking for the Holly Cow model myself!

Most will restuff/form them, and if not then you don't want them to do the work. just in my experience, if they can't then they can't reupholster my seats and thank god.

pros can and I don't want a looks good job, I want a holy cow.

Frank I think I saw your seats in an earlier discussion but can you put up pics again? The more I hear about options of redoing my seats the more I am leaning that direction. Tanks for your reply.Originally Posted by Frank C.:

Dutch,

I do have a set of seats but they are what some refer to as the comfy seats.  They are 'tan' and in very nice shape just sitting in my basement.

I would prefer a small family run business that does good work rather than the big shops, so thanks for the suggestion. I will check that out. Originally Posted by Jeffrey Harnasch:

I should add that it doesn't say that he does autos , but he will.

Definitely replacing the foam if I have mine redone. I did find what appears to be a good car, boat, home furniture reupholstery shop nearby where I live. He has the ability to re-form the fiberglass frame and redo the upholstery but he cannot quote me until I either bring in the seats or send hi some photos. I have seen some other blogs regarding the cost of reupholstering existing seats and there seems to be quite a range from reasonable to very expensive for vinyl, not even leather. Pays to shop!

Hello Frank - saw the pictures on my phone but not in this reply track on my home computer, thanks. Not sure why it did not show up in this conversation track but anyway, I think I will try to get mine redone. Thanks very much for showing me your seats.  You will find a buyer in time.
