This may seem odd but here it goes... Im looking to build a speedster to showcase my abilities and possibly start building these kits in northern california on the side. Ive got a regular 9-5 job and looking to do some sidework. Only problem is im 24 and dont have the cash to front the cost of the build.

Ive already built about 10 of these cars and worked on dozens more- Infact ive been building, restoring, customizing and racing air cooled vws since i was 13. For the last two years i built speedsters for a dealer up here. I hated the way things were done there and have since moved on to a service job for a pool company. I recently ran across an opportunity to rent space in an existing hot rod shop and I am tinkering with the idea of building these cars on an ordered basis. I can direct you to several sites to see my work or better yet you can see it for yourself if you are in northern california. I have built and worked on many members cars and atleast im pritty sure they liked my work. Hopefully some of them will chime in.

What I am purposing is kind of wide open. I'm willing to build the car that you want- stock or wild and do it for cheap just to showcase my work. I can assure you that the pan fabrication and the body and paint will be as good as it gets. Infact I already have everything to build a rolling chassis so Im starting on that friday and will post pics as i go. If you or know of anyone that would be interested in having a car built then please contact me. If you would like some references please call- SOme other projects im working on right now are in my garage and the owners would be happy to speak with you. thanks

Okay Scott -here's THE rule.

If you are building a car you have to show us pictures. That way we can ooh and ahh over your work. Then we go brag to our friends about this "scott-guy" who is really good at building speedstah's you should give him a shout!

That's the rule. Post Pics.

i know i said i would post pics of the pan- I finished the fabrication on sat but my camera was out of battery- So pics will be up tommorrow.

Im trying to decide what color combo i want on this car. Im thinking about red with tan interior- red with black interior- or silver with red interior. If you guys had a choice- What would you choose?
I don't think they should come in any factory colors.
(Just stirring the pot. Should be worth a chuckle.)
I like silver a lot, but it can't be a flat color; there should be a little gold and a little blue in the mix.
If you watch the movie trailer for Wimbledon, you'll see what I mean. The color is exactly wrong.
Here's my pick on a "good" silver:

All,

Scott Dees is VERY REPUTIBLE.

I have dealt with Scott for many years. When he worked for Specialty... then weeks after he left that company, I asked him to rebuilt my engine independently and on his own (I have owned my JPS Speedster for over ten years. It's JPS's first ever built Speedster, ask John to confirm.)... currently it has less than 500 miles on this newly rebuilt engine... but the engine's doing fantastically well. Scott will continue to work on the engine during the "break-in" period over the first couple of thousand miles... but I have complete faith in Scott, since my past experience when he was the primary mechanic at Specialty Auto, the man is VERY TRUE TO HIS WORD. AND HE KNOWS HIS STUFF. Especially with VWs and replica Speedsters. I'd have NO PROBELM with Scott building me a Speedster (but since he's worked on my JPS... he tells me it's worth keeping).

If you'd like to ask me any specific questions about Scott or his work, you're more than happy to contact me privately.

David Louie
thanks for the kind words david-

here is the pan with the fabrication done- I just need to finsih sand blasting it before sealing and undercoating

heres another shot of the tunnel-

and this is how i like to section the pan halves- Once its undercoated, the idea is you cant tell its been cut and sectioned unless you take a REAL close look.

Sorry about the different links. I was only able to upload one photo on this site before i exceeded my amount. Ill work on being a contributing member so i can have better links.

i think everyone who see's the place has a bit of shop envy- The owner bought it and put it up himself- It was supposed to be a hanger at travis airforce base but was never errected. It is equipt with everything to build cars inhouse. Even has a mini machine shop on the other side- with a mill, lathe, all kind of saws, a brake- sheer- anything you could want. Larry the owner is a perfectionist and a master with fiberglass. Wait till you see the body and paint quality as this thing goes together.
