Recently bought a Porsche 911 replica on a VW pan without the engine. I have never seen one of the 911 replicas but think it looks fairly cool. I am looking for an engine to go into this car when I get it. If you have a turnkey type 1 engine for sale, please PM me. Thanks.

Why not a Type 4?
Is it a UK Covin 911 replica? I've seen a handful of them in US. Nice cookie cutter wheels.
A T4 engine would make it a 912E replica? I'd go all the way with a 5-speed 914 (901) transaxle too (rather than messing with a T4 flywheel to fit a T1 transaxle.
Jimmy you seem to find all sorts of neet cars good on you
why not a SUBARU SUV 6 cylinder 300hp beast?....just a question
That would give you incredible torque … Subie H6 is really nice.
.... more is more. Some say you cannot have too much torque/HP. All I know with certainty is that no matter how much torque/HP you might have, there is some SOB right around the corner with more.
and even with all the HP/torque in the world ...both you & that other SOB still have to make the next corner....just sayin'
Yes, torque and horsepower are good to have in a speedster.
A Corvair engine would really cause some strife. But...don't you have a Mazda engine in the back bay?
Sold the Mazda engine last year. Going with a nice Type I first to get her under power. Stole this car. Been watching it on Samba for the last 8 months. I was surprised nobody snapped it up. Price kept dropping to a point it was ridiculous. Story goes like this. VW shop in Huntington Beach Ca. did a bunch of work to the car. Owner disappeared and shop owner filed to have the car awarded him toward the $7K worth of work done to the car. Price started at $7k dropped to $5k then to $2900.00 and then accepted my lower offer. All new brake lines and brakes, completely new fuel tank and lines, new wheel bearings and inner and outer CV joints, new pedal cluster etc. Shop owner sold off the fresh 1715 engine he built for the car. He thinks it could be a Covin. Looks like all the Covin Turbo 911 replicas I have found online. Comes with the whale tail and all. I find think it will make for a fun toy.
Love that story. Well-bought.
Agree great buy - even with shipping from CAlif to mid states. You have resurrected some very interesting cars!
I have never seen one before; looks awesome. And yes; it could use a radical drivetrain.
I just remembered that Renegade Hybrids makes a V8 conversion for the 911. Later this may be the way to go. For now, I am having a nice 1914 dual 40 Solex engine built and installed by the seller, that I can use to move the car around and make it easier and less expensive to ship the car back to Indiana. I can then enjoy the car now while I decide and save for the engine I want to finally go with. The car can look as good as the one below with the V8 conversion when finished, it is the same car.

I think a nice, drivable Type I makes a lot of sense for a fun project. I’m just perverse enough to get that emblem place make me a 912S insignia and drive it to PCA events for the LOLZ.

Don't forget the wheelie bars.

I've often wondered about those Covin replicas. Like a Speedster replica in 1977 (when an original Speedster could be had for $3000), they didn't seem to make much sense to me. Early 911s were about the same money, and had better running gear.
It's been a long time since that was the case, but Ed's comment seemed to resonate with me. It just "seems" like a 911 replica on a Beetle pan would look like a 'toon-town/clown-car version in real life. So this morning I looked to see what the difference between an air-cooled Beetle and an early 911 was... you know, to see how much shorter the Beetle was than a SWB car.
The Beetle WB is more than 7" longer (94.5" vs 87.05"). The early Beetle has a longer WB than a LWB 911 (89.29"). I've got no idea if the Covin sits on a shortened pan or not, but the WB, track, and other fixed points are not "way out in the weeds" like a Fiero/Lambo or similar.
This one is crying for a Hayabusa (or similar) conversation.
I'm going to be interested in following this.
The Covin was never a replica of a 911. It is an exact replica of a Porsche 930 Turbo which even back in the 80's was rare and expensive. The dimensions of the Covin are identical to the original and all Porsche parts fit the Covin. Doors, Hood, Trunk, full interior. Some in the UK have built Covin's that use all Porsche parts.
It's a project worthy of you, Jimmy. I'm looking forward to the end result.

More tail the better!
Apparently the Covins could be had using either a VW pan. I think it was from a T3 though - not bug (the front H beam is different) or a tube frame. Can't find photos now.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a shelving unit rather than to put an extra shelf on the car?
SUPER hard and firm PASS! I'd go so far as to call that shtoopid!
I thought it humorous that the 930 whale tail wasn't quite enough for the Covin owner! Guess he wanted people to ensure they knew it was a knock off.
This is a half measure.
Needs a third wing, Guards Red paint and an iron cross!
Curse you, Red Baron!!!
