Powerhaus VW Parts in Torrance
Since you're in the vicinity, I would highly recommend going directly to the A-1 Performance Exhaust shop in Santa Ana. They do not have a website but here is the contact info;
A-1 Performance Exhaust, 721 South Main Street, Santa Ana, CA (714) 836-7201.
If you have your A-1 Sidewinder installed at the shop, the exhaust will be more custom-fit and sit higher up in the engine bay (more tucked away). If you buy, through a distributor, the exhaust system will sit much lower because of clearance tolerances built in for universal fit. Here's a pic demonstrating this...
My buddy's shop installed A-1 on left, my off-the-shelf A-1 on the right.

Here's my previous VS with A-1 installed at the A-1 shop in Santa Ana.

Wow, that's a huge difference.
You need to potty train your car Jim.
...or wear a supporter to keep my junk from hanging too low!
Big difference. Thanks for the education Jim!
And once again we learn something new on the SOC...this time from Jim!
So if you are on East Coast and order from A-1 directly - can you get one that is located up tighter if you say it for a Speedster?
Awesome going to call them on tuesday you guys rock for the feed back. Is there different sidewinders, I read about a ceramic one? I just prefer to get the best so hopefully do it right the first time. I have 2012 vs I got last year with 600 miles and the pip hits everything.
"....and the pipe hits everything"
Post some pictures of your car OCC. Specifically from the sides and the back. Your car could be sitting low too. Is your car pretty stock from VS?
Ceramic is a coating used for to contain the heat within the exhaust pipe which causes it to flow out of the system faster thereby increasing horsepower. It adds horsepower and COST. Ceramic coating anything is expensive.
Here's a short explanation:
Thanks Robert, Yes I got for a guy who only had 600 miles on it and for what I know its stock with the upgraded 1925cc engine. I only put around 7oo miles on it and the exhaust has gave me some problem with the bolt always coming off and I put some clap to help it not scrap as bad but they brake to. I take some pics and post them.
Do you have to purchase and bring the Side wider in to A-1 or can you purchase from/through A-1 in santa ana? Thanks guys!
Call Tiger, be patient, I understand he is one busy fellow. I very sure his operation is portal to portal. It wouldn't hurt to mention Speedster Owners .com . , lots of happy customers here.
If I ever come up with the cash, I'd trailer my car down to him, 400 mi. one way.
My pipes are not visible and it was not installed at Tigers shop!
Where did you get yours from, Bill? I think maybe the one not tucked up so tight is for a Beetle? A1 does make all the different tubing sizes and configurations for both Beetle and Speedster. I'm sure some of his retailers don't carry any of the Speedster specific units (too much stock to carry in this day and age for the rather limited market) because the Beetle unit will fit. I'm guessing it just doesn't fit quite as nicely.... Al
It was ordered through Tiger, knowing it was for a speedster.

I think through Tiger, or through Aircooled.net would be a way to do it as well. I'm of the understanding that individuals can wait a long time when dealing with A1, but Aicooled.net is a regular customer of their's, so I suspect they get preferential treatment when it's busy. You can specify for a Speedster as well.
