Hello Speedster owners. My name is Jose, and Ive been wanting to become a paying member for quite a while, but don't want to do so until I purchase my own speedster. Im turning 30 at the end of the year, and want to give myself a new or used gift. I do want to make it into a regular driver. Any suggestions? I have emailed a few of you, and thank you for your ideas, but would like to hear more.
Go with a 1776cc or a 2110cc engine. If I go new I may purchase at JPS Motorsports with John in North Hollywood, CA. But would not mind going for a used one in great conditions to start with the first Speedster. Im considering getting the convertible that converts to a Hardtop, if Im not mistaken (John can do that), for those rainy days.

Would like to hear if anyone uses theres as a everyday driver, and if any of you have any suggestions.

Thanks!

Jose

Glad to have you Jose. My Speedster literally arrived in my driveway on my 30th birthday last year. Trust me - follow your gut and get one ASAP! Between the members and the 'Search' function, I'm sure you'll find all you need to make a sound decision. Keep an eye on this classifieds tab - there have been some very good deals here lately. I bought a used Vintage and am very happy I did. I may upgrade one day, but this has allowed me to test the waters and learn about these cars without breaking the bank.

Thank you Brian, I appreciate the encouragement. I am looking and looking pretty aggressively. I would not mind getting one this summer, but my 30th is in November, and would not mind driving it on that day. How do you like the 1915cc engine? I was considering getting one with 1776cc, but I was reading your comments and it seems you like the engine.

Yes Vince, its the manually done for the hardtop conevrtible. I beleive Joh Steele at JPS Motorsports in North Hollywood does them, I still have to speak to him is I decide to order it. The side windows are made of plexiglass.

I posted a couple pictures of one.

I want to have it as a regular driver. But we'll see.

Thanks gentlemen for your inputs and would like some more, and once I get that baby, You'll see me driving next to you in this beautiful Southern Cali weather.

Jose
Im probably more excited than you. But I was just looking at your pics, and you go to Half Moon Bay alot? My college buddie is from Half Moon Bay, and I love going up there and spending time with his family.

I will be looking around for the Speedster, and once I get it, you will know, and we could take a drive in wine country.

Thanks Vince.
Jose. Consider at least a 2110. I've put 16,000 miles on my CB Performance built 2110cc with two road trips over 4000 miles each, some local vacations, and lots of in town driving. Go for more power, you won't regret it. I believe John Leader posted this advice: "Decide what engine you want, and go up two sizes." I agree. I think a quailty 2332 would be just as reliable, and even more fun. CB is a great builder in my opinion.

PS. Temps here get over 100 in May! Cooling is not an issue if the engine is built right, right exhaust, in tune, with a good cooler, gearing, proper tin, fan/shroud, and sealing, etc. Just another opinion to consider.

My first JPS had a nicely sorted 1776, which I really enjoyed. My second (and current) JPS has a monster Serrano-built 2332 with Weber 44 IDFs and a remote oil-cooler, Porsche 911 fan shroud, plus an A-1 1 5/8" custom tuned exhaust. This motor pulls like a Clydesdale from bottom to top and the acceleration is, well, really fun. The torque/HP combo in the 2332 is perfect for my Speedster driving habits (don't ask).
