The car was built out of Chuck's abandoned Avanti molds and sold by Avanti as a kit. Avanti called it a Beck, and the seller believes it is a Beck, Chuck says "it ain't no Beck".
There were approx. 3 cars to leave Avanti under Chuck's supervision and after he and dad left, Avanti made several changes to the chassis jig and sold a few kits.

The most notable thing that Chuck mentioned to me is that Avanti changed the mounting points of the rear suspension allowing it to flex under load. Chuck has a client who built one of these kits and they both agreed that the handling characteristics of Chuck's 904 and the Avanti 904 were night and day. He also mentioned that the quality of the lamination was below his standards.

Just an FYI on some other differences; the Beck 904 has CNC aluminum uprights all 4 corners, stainless chassis (except for Chuck's mule, a few Chuck built Avanti cars, and the first production car), hand made aluminum window frames, aluminum 4 link, aluminum a arms, Fox racing shocks custom valved for the Beck, OMG custom 904 aluminum calipers fit to 911 brakes, CNC lightened hinges all around, hand made and TIG welded fuel tank, 904 repro gauges, to name a few.
No doubt it seems like a steal at $14K, and MAYBE someone could make something out of it, but I'll be passing on this one myself... I asked Chuck what it would take to make it more like our current production cars and he said he'd start by replacing the body and the chassis...
We passed on it after looking closely at the rear suspension/frame setup. The price was tempting, Carey, but the HP that the short stroke turbo 3.2 will put out requires, well, let's just say that it requires a well sorted frame and suspension...

We'll hold out until we can afford what we want. Got a couple of project cars that could help out with that sometime next year. The 3.2 can sit in the shipping crate until then.
