Shouldn't the tube in the shroud be immobile, welded or attached in some way? I am considering going to the Joe Bence Enterprises tube and roller system for dual carb linkage. I have no play in the linkage itself, only with the tube.

Anybody have experience with the Bence setup?

I was once upon a time touring an old abandoned coal mining operation in the wilds of New Mexico.  Lots of old heavy duty cast iron machinery laying about with big old gears and wheels and heaven only knows what.  Likely been lying there for 50 years or more.  Anyway, one of the larger immovable pieces had an operating instruction embossed right into the cast iron, near one of the large gear bearings, which read: "USE PLENTY OF GREASE".  These are words to live by when one metal part rubs against another.  I advise it here too.  The white lithium sort would work well.  Might not need "plenty" (a little dab 'ill do ya.) but tend to it often.

I just put rubber grommets over the tube where it goes through the fan shroud on the front and back.  You may have to enlarge the shroud holes a bit to fit - maybe not, if they're worn some, but they should fit snugly.

Once the grommets are on there, it doesn't move or rattle and everything stays put.  Looks neat, too.

I also have a big throttle return spring over the cable between the fan shroud and the throttle linkage actuator lever, rather than return springs on the carb actuators.  I like that better.  My throttle cable is not angled hardly at all as it exits the shroud tube to run to the linkage actuator - just barely touches the tube at the top when throttle is closed and barely touches the tube at the bottom when the throttle is wide open.
