Lost 1st and 2nd gear tonight

I have a 1999 Vintage Speedster that I bought new from Kurt at VS..love this car.... and has about 14,000 miles on it. I was driving it tonight and now I seemed to have no 1st or 2nd gear. 3rd and 4th are still there...Any ideas?

Sounds like your shifter may have slid over. Put it in neutral. Remove the 2 bolts. Lift it out. Reinstall making sure that neutral stays in it's natural resting state. Re-tighten the bolts & test. You can try loosening the bolts and shifting either left or right, but I've had better luck just finding neutral.

You might also check the drub screw and rear tranny mount..... Cheap insurance...

I came across this while search the web for you.. will probably help.. same idea Tom had but a little more detailed...

If you are having problems with:

1st gear - Adjust the shifter back

1st and 2nd - Adjust the shifter to the right

2nd gear - Adjust the shifter forward

1st and 3rd - Adjust the shifter adjust to the back

2nd and 4th - Adjust to the front

3rd - Adjust back

3rd and 4th - Adjust left

4th - Adjust forward

Reverse: adjust the shifter right or front; but just a little. Reverse could be an internal transmission problem.

I recently had problems finding the gears after being in 3rd and 4th. The shift coupler under the carpet/metal plate was moving. Bought a new one and this time welded the teh end so not to have this happen again. Original is justt pinched into place.
