Louvered deck lid that fits a Beck. $400 + shipping
Does anyone know if this will fit a VS? I assume it is painted the color shown?
Gerry - The holes for the mounting bracket are unique to a Beck. Bottom line is that I doubt if it would match up to a VS or any other manufacturer for that matter. I will post a picture later.
822 is the new decklid mounted on the car showing the brackets. The other two are the old decklid off the car.

WARREN WHY DID U CHANGE DECK LIDS?
LETS SEE A FRONT SHOT OF THE NEW LID
LETS SEE A FRONT SHOT OF THE NEW LID
As you may or may not know, a decklid consists of two parts. I had to use the original Beck underside to mount the new decklid to it. Lots of fiberglass work. I got the 6 louver top from Kirk at VS. Carey's mold is a little different than the one Kirk uses. I like the bold look of Carey's but the other one looks a little more authentic. What the hell else do I have to do but change the look of louvers. I must be mad.
I fit one of Careys lids to my CMC/Old IM. But I did it in a VERY unconventional way. The hinges and their mounting points are very different from other cars. I'd say it probably could go on a Vintage but it'll take some "customizing" to get it there.
You're right Mickey, anything can be made to fit. All I am saying is that it will bolt right up to a Beck. Anything else would take some creativity.

Warren, you don't happen to have a beater luggage rack, do you?
Teresa and I want to mod Mickey's old decklid for road trips, making it interchangeable with the lid we have right now.

No, I don't have one. I have never liked the idea of a luggage rack. Several reasons, but the two that stand out the most are that it severly blocks rear vision and personally I don't think the fiberglass decklids are made for a whole lot of extra weight. With the top up, Karen and I have put our luggage and two sets of golf clubs in the back of the Speedie. Tight fit, but we got ur done.

Before we get too far from your louvres, we really do have Mickey's old decklid. I like the louvres, and I'd like to have some installed in it, as well as some for the firewall by my oil cooler. Are there metal pieces inside the 'glass ones you've made? It's a CMC lid, so we'd be modifying it a little anyway. Id be curious whether it would be worth the pain of fiddling with the fiberglass and learning how to do it ourselves.
I don't much care for luggage racks, either, but we don't have a back seat anymore. It seems Teresa likes to drive the little car, so I wind up with the luggage underneath my legs.
I figure a couple backpacks on a beater luggage rack, one on either side of the grille, would be enough for an overnight -- and I wouldn't wind up with the problem I have now:

Cory--I sure agree about using the luggage rack. My car is a VS with their stamdare luggage rack. I went to Kmart and bought some wide leather belts to use to attach a mid sized suitcase---an old one I found in a second hand store. I used it for my wife's "stuff" on the last Carlisle trip and it really was a huge help as far as giving her some additional room for whatever it was she put in there.
We limited the suitcase to about 30# but really, 30# is a fair amount of stuff.
Using the suitcase coat me a couple of miles per gallon but that's more than ok because ir made the trip a little bit more pleassant for her.
You know what they say; "If momma ain't happy, aint nobody happy!

Cory - Here are a couple of shots that Carey sent me. The first one is the raw decklid before the grill hole was cut. You could get it from Carey and attach it to your bottom portion. Again, it's a lot of fiberglass work, but it can be done. The second shot is with the two pieces glued together.
I'm still looking for a deck lid for my CMC. Any of you that are replacing your with the new one want to part with your old one?

Gary, Steve Hall makes them,
Lane, you need this decklid. If you give me your paint code, I will paint it for you.
I'm thinkin', I'm thinkin'
My budget is kinda stretched right now as Pam is having some surgery in a couple of weeks. Did you notice any change in running temp? Carey told me that their tests showed it actually extracted cooling air, making things run hotter.

For Pete's sake, Lane!
Just get the money order while the missus is unconscious in surgery!
Done! Besides, you've already got the fanciest interior on the danged East Coast. Why not the 'money' decklid, too? Think of it as your civic duty to support Warren in these tough economic times.
Warren, I think his paint code is "Arrest Me Red."

Lane - I haven't done any tests on which way the air flows. I've read other reports that say what Carey said. In my climate here on the "left coast", it really doesn't matter, besides I am running an oil cooler anyway. I did it strickly for the look.
I have the external cooler too, and I really wonder if the vents would matter that much. Still, I just spent some money on engine stuff, and we are having to pay for Pam's surgery out of pocket, so I'm not sure (damn!) how I'd (double damn!!) do it right now (TRIPLE DAMN!!!).
Give me a few days to think about it.

Lane,
You can do what I did; put a couple rows of louvers under the grill. It kinda replicates what Porsche did with the 356 twin grill.

Lane,
Just cover the underside of the vents if it's a concern. I haven't noticed any difference, but then again I haven't really driven it that much since I put the louvered lid on.
I actaully considered something like Terry's mod but for whatever reason I didn't do it. Since I have to redo the decklid this winter anyway (from the top clasp breaking and whipping the top back on to my lid) I'm going to do it up all nice nice. I can't see how having more opening back there makes the engine run hotter? The fan sucks air at the rate it sucks air regardless so how can there be less air back there for it too suck? It's not like a vacuum is created with no air.
Did that make sense?

Makes sense, Mickey. Carey said something about air extraction and stuff I didn't quite catch. That's kind of beside the point at the moment. As great as it would look, I just don't have the discretionary buck$ at the moment. I dunno, let me think a couple of days and see what I can some up with.

hey mickey wouldnt hot air rise anyway
lane, terry has a device to keep your deck lid propped as u drive so u always have air available

I think a Kerswill pump will keep it up
Justin, this deck-lid has your name all over it. Nice car. I love the color.
For that matter, Lane should have resolved his discretionary income problems by now and he really should buy that deck lid for his Beck.
How 'bout it, Lane? Let's not be a Monetary Flow Whus!

Let's see... In the last 30 days I've paid for Pam's major jaw surgery and all the post surgery support (the ins. company said it was elective - bullshit!), paid major veterinarian bills for a loving but elderly dog with congestive heart failure, and paid a ridiculous plumber's bill so that I wouldn't have any more sewage in my house. In the next month or so I have to re-carpet the half of the house not covered by the insurance claim, as well as paying the $3k insurance deductible on the half that IS covered.
Yeah, I have plenty of available cash - if I sell a kidney.
Seriously, I wish I could, but I'd have to get it painted as well, and I just don't think that'd fly right now. Warren, if you still have it in a couple of months I might be able to swing it.

Lane, I'm pretty sure this is a speed bump for you. Hope it works out sooner, rather than later.

How's Mrs. Anderson doing?
She's doing much better, thanks. Still a little pain, and still limited to relatively soft foods, but improving. Energy level is quite low, but she's spending most of her energy on healing.
