I don't know, guys.......I drove to Lane's and back last Saturday with my F150 and it took over 30 minutes to get all of the "Love Bugs" washed off of the front end, windshield and mirrors.....and THAT was just driving up SC-17 and back, at (or slightly under) the speed limit!!! (Which is all you want to do on that deadly road, believe me!)

Doubt that I can get Peter McEwan to go, as he's recently had surgery on his gas-pedal foot and can't drive (although he might ride with me), Jody Henson has never gone more than 45 minutes from his house in his Speedster, so he's unlikely, and we haven't yet been able to interest the new Beck owner in joining us on anything, so maybe it falls to me to represent the true "Low Country" (not that "pretend" Low Country up near Charleston) as one of the "Speedstah Guys from Beaufort"!

Check with me (email) around Thursday to be sure, but Saturday looks do-able.

Is the BBQ around there as good as Besinger's on RT 17??

Let's see.....all I need are my ear plugs, sunglasses, "Speedsters Meet Spyders" hat, my "Bug and Tar" cleaner, and, Oh Yeah!....a windshield scraper for the Love Bugs.....
Oh yeah, BBQ. We have Sticky Fingers, which is a locally started chain that touts theirs as "Memphis Style". As a Memphian by birth and a 7-year volunteer at the world's largest BBQ contest every May in Memphis, I can tell they hit it pretty darned close. We also have Smokey Bones nearby. Both of these are not too far from the location of the car show. I have no idea how big this will be, but it should be fun for a while anyway.
Sounds like a familiar tune to me. Sarah did Carlisle once and I think that's it for her. So it looks like Carlisle and Watkins Glen will be stag parties for me going forward.

However, she mentioned a half marathon in, ummmm, Charleston, I think. I'm not sure of the date but I was totally taken by surprise when she suggested that we could drive over in the Red Man and I could hook up with some Speedster buddies. Boy, talk about a surprise.
From their web site, it looks like registration is from 9 am - 11 am with "judging" at 1 pm. WX looks about perfect from here...

If I leave here around 8 am, I should be there around 10 - 10:30 am (Mapquest tells me 2:15 travel time) so there you have it. Looks like I'll be the onliest "Beaufort Guy". Glad I have a Beaufort bumper sticker.

Should be interesting seeing how many "Custom" VW's show up....it's also open to the VW "Tuner" crowd.

Lane, you've got my cell #, so you can call me enroute, if you wish. I'll be coming up SC-17 to I526 to I26 to Ashley-Phosphate (what a street name!), or something like that. Also on channel 7 on FRS...

Ok, I gotta ditch the humility for a moment and tell y'all that I cleaned up at this show!!!! I walked away with Best Paint, Best Custom, and Dealer's Choice. The latter trophy is some 2 1/2 feet tall! Our very own Gordon Nichols took an Honorable Mention (that'll teach him to outrun me!).

A really gorgeous 1950-something Cabriolet took Best Engine, Best Stock, and Best of Show. He was also a newcomer, and we were both a little embarassed by walking away with all the goodies. Heck, I even won a door prize.

This was a small, local show with about 25 entries, but the overall quality was very high. There was a drag Beetle there (no, not a Beetle in a wig and high heels!) with a turbocharged engine that was pretty wild looking.

Kevin Haskins, the fellow who told us about the show, was soooooo close to having his car back together, but was ultimately defeated by header gaskets. Still, he showed up sans car and we all had a good time.

Hoss, sorry, but I don't currently have an operating camera. Gordon brought one, but I didn't see him use it.
