If your VW shop does any kind of racing business, they might have trans cases lying around that lend themselves to pro-street use. Welded spider gears and LSD is a pretty common VW mod for the cars here in the Mid-Atlantic.

I heard a rumor once that Ron Luumus Racing had a stash of '63 Beetle gearboxes for that exact purpose.

ZF made a true LSD installed in some VWs back in the day- they sometimes show up on the Samba, usually for north of $1K. I picked one up a couple of years ago, and had Rancho put a new clutch-pack in it and install it in my transaxle last winter.

Quaffe makes a new TBD (Torque Biasing Differential), which can be bought from various transmission rebuilders, but nobody is currently making a new true LSD. Paul from Guard's Transaxles could (and would), if he could get 10 guys to pony up about $2K (each) for a run of them.

If you want to play, you'll need to pay.
