Its how the lug sits in the wheel seat and five lug wheel is too generic so indicate type of 5 lug wheel. I Have Fuchs and it does matter what lug nut you use.

There are beveled acorn nuts (generic 60 degree taper) and rounded seat nuts (Porsche).

Actually there are 2 different rounded ones (one smaller radius than other).  Believe the Porsche is wider seating surface.

Post a picture of what you have.

I bought a car that had lug nuts miss-matched to the rims that kept loosening until I found the right ones.

The studs on mine are 12 mm.

these i believe are the correct style, bought them together with the longer studs....those chrome things are an accident waiting to happen

IIRC if you are using studs then you need an open top lug nut. The tip of the bevel fits inside the rim and as you tighten the lug nut it in teases the amount of force against it.

The lug nuts you have on there now could potentially get pulled through the hole n the rim and your rim will come off. 

I went thru this with the cone shaped ones, found out the right ones are what Wolfgang posted a picture of. You need what are called ball seat. Mine has 12 mm studs and they are a little harder to find. I think 14 mm ones are what you find mostly. Wide 5s use 12 mm.  Brand Source has them for 1.49 each if you buy 20.

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words.  When you e-mailed me I pictured the early acorn seat VW nuts, which are smaller than some of the later wide five bolts were.  These will grab the inner lip of the lug bolt opening, but only by 1mm at most.  What you have pictured there is just flat ass wrong.

Looks like you already have studs, so you just need 12mm 1.5 pitch ball seat nuts.

Tis is another case of someone who thought those lug nuts "looked cool" I'm sure... little did they know they were creating a dangerous situation...

This that Beck that was built by Dukes Garage out in Colorado.   I don't know if they did it or the prior owner.   I am still uncovering little things here and there that are not up to Beck standards.

e-mail me the chassis number when you get a chance.  ;d like to look at the invoice and see what all was done here and what was done there, as well as the parts list of items we sent them.  Just curiosity at this point...

Wow, that is some scary picture!

VW and early Porsche used 12 x 1.5mm.

Later 911 and watercooled cars use 14 x 1.5mm.

I have 14mm studs and black steel ball seat nuts, open top. Ebay for a buck each.

Just got the new lugs in mail today.  Hopefully, I will get them installed tonight.

Here is a picture of the new lugs installed.  Sorry, the picture is not real clear.  I think we are safe now.

Those studs seem awfully short.  I'm used to seeing them stick out the end of the nut.

There is a lot of thread captured in the ball section of the nut.

Those studs are way too short, and therefore unsafe. To carry full rated load, a stud should project at least its width beyond the end of the nut. I would purchase and install studs 3/4" longer.

You know... those are the cheap, thread-in studs (rather than the drilled and pressed in). You can easily replace them with the standard lug-bolts, rather than the (too short) lugs and nuts.

I agree with the above.  While I don't think they'll come flying off, they would not pass tech here at the shop and would be changed out for longer.

Man this never ends.  Carey those guys at Duke's Garage did a shitty job on this build. I hope you have stopped allowing them to build speedster and put Beck's name them.  I wonder what else is going to come up. If you remember I had problems with the original engine spilling gas into the crank case.  I built a new engine myself to replace that one.  Back to the internet for more stuff!

It looks cool (the complete wide five racing look) with the studs sticking out another 3/4" inch.

No way to tell if these things were done by Duke's or by the first owner, but to answer your question, no we don't let any dealers or resellers built their own anymore.  

You need to measure the studs you have and figure out the ones you need...
