I have seen that rack up close. It is polished stainless steel and a piece of art. The welds are near invisible. It is a 'replica' of the Lietz Rack and like our cars, it is better than the original, as it will not rust either. I know Jim Ward bought one and thinks highly of it.

Troy, be aware that there are a couple of sizes/styles. Henry is familiar with the two main ones and can sell you them for the same price that you can buy them direct for, most of the time.

I can give you the location to buy the stainless polished steel one like the one Henry is using, but would you please email me direct if you would like it. It is pricey 700?? range, and is the largest of the styles. You can buy the smaller kind from NLA that is basically the size of the deck lid and its not nearly as nice or nearly as expensive. It really depends on which look you prefer versus what you need to accomplish from it?
Hi Troy. There is a nice luggage rack on E-Bay right now, and the bidding is still in a good price range with 4 days left. Dale can ID it for sure, but I think it's a Lietz.

I have a little practical experience with three different racks on my VS and now on my IM. I used Vintage Speedster's Rack for 2 1/2 years and an AMCO rack that is the model for the Vinatge rack for a few months. I sold it when I bought the IM rack that Dale provided pics of. All of them did the job, but the Lietz Replica Henry sells is by far a better rack for road trips, especially if you have a right seater. The AMCO/Vintage is a capable and good looking rack too... I traveled several thousand miles with mine and I am sure Rick Davis has double my mileage with his AMCO. So, it all comes down to how much you want to spend, how much luggage you want to carry, how often you will use it, and what appeals to you best in looks. For me, it's the IM rack.

If you search E-Bay ("Porsche 356 Luggage") you will find the leather straps that go with the Lietz/Intermeccanica Rack.

Hope this helps.

Jim

Ahhhh, I see the difference now Dale. It is much different than the Lietz. I've seen them in the hammered finish and also powder coated to match the car but never knew what they were. I think there was one on that Silver "A" Coupe (with Carrera trim and gas tank) that we saw at Steve's Porsche in LA. (remember? In that stoarge building?) Thanks for IDing it.
Vince, I am shocked and horrified? You aren't really proposing spending more money on a luggage rack in the name of authenticity are you? This is a slippery slope my friend, next thing you know you'll be building a new car for a lot more money. LOL

I couldn't resist, you crack me up!!!
Damn it....Now you've brought it to everone's attention....
As a moderator, you have the power to edit my post above, please do so....change my name to one of those newbies.....
If you look at the trunk my wife makes me take on trips, and at the size of my current rack, I thought it made a lot of sense to upgrade....it almost takes both of us to get it up on the trunk lid.
sometimes I feel that trunk is going to fly right off, but I guess its not the size of the rack, but the strength of the lid hardware its attached to....
Steven, Thanks for bringing the fact that I could care less about authenticity, to MY attention. you just saved me a couple of hundred dollars...
I owe you a cold one....

Troy!

Check out EuropeanCollectibles.com

They are a restoration shop in Costa Mesa, California. I've done some business with them over the years and they are very helpful. They may have some racks (original)in inventory in various condition (which determines the price). I got mine there, plus luggage straps (separate order) for under $400.

It's worth a look to see if it fits your need!
