IMG_2672IMG_2673IMG_2674Same rack as VIntage And Carey sell at Special Edition/Beck.  This one has special tabs welded on (for leather straps) and is  powder coated in a  beautiful silver gray.  $195.00 plus shipping.   Shipping should only be around 30 bucks.

Amco luggage rack 3The CMC cast grate slats are too close together for the "Vintage" rack feet to pass thru.  It is possible to replace the hibachi grille with the OEM constructed grill BUT it takes trimming the CMC/FF trunk lid opening about 1/4" all around.  Doable but probably requires fiberglassing the edge and repainting.

I bought a real, repro 356 grill from Stoddard’s, trimmed my CMC grill opening to make it fit and popped it in.  I had to epoxy four aluminum tabs to the underside of the engine cover to attach the grill to, but that’s no biggie.  I have not noticed any weakness in the cover after doing this, BUT I never installed a luggage rack, either.

Now, if I were to install a luggage rack on a CMC ( or any other replica, for that matter ) I would use either really big fender washers under the nuts under the cover to distribute the weight stress or (preferred) a metal strap between the underside of the cover and the nuts on each side.  Similar straps, like 1” wide up both sides of the grill, on the top side of the fiberglass inner cover piece, would strengthen everything even more so you could actually put 20 pounds up there on the luggage rack and make it useful, but it is still fiberglass and will never be as strong as a steel car.

Anyway, my 2 cents.
