I'm getting ready to mount a luggage rack on my CMC engine cover. Am curious if anyone has successfully accomplished this since the bolt holes in the rack do not match up with the slots in the hibachi grille. I have an idea how to do this but want to avoid reinventing if someone else already has a solution.

I mounted the AMCO rack I got from TC on my CMC. The OEM bolts were way too short. I used threaded rod cut about 5" long. Bought some chrome plumbing water bathroom sink supply tubes. Cut them to length with tubing cutter and put them over the threaded rod. I finished ends of threaded rod with a SS acorn cap nut. The 4 rods go right between the CMC grill slats. If you are trying to use a VS rack - the legs are like 1/2" thick so won't fit without replacing CMC grill with an OEM one (which requires cutting the opening in lid larger), cutting/welding a slat on CMC grill or removing VS legs and doing like I did.
There isn't any indication on the rack as to which one it is. It is a Leitz-style rack but I'm not sure if it is an original or repo. Looks similar to this one but the lastic strips are beige instead of white: www.elevenparts.com/viewer.php?id=471&img=pictures/471/MVC-012S%20Kopie.JPG

The mount holes are slightly off from the grille slots and the tubes that fit over the bolts are too thick for the gaps. I'll probably have to make some kind of hidden bracket to relocate the holes.
Greg,

I picked up the threaded rod, bathroom water plumbing tubes, and acorn buts. Looks like all of those parts will help solve the installation.

I believe my rack is different from yours because I have to make two aluminum brackets, reason is the holes in the rack are slightly off from where the rods go through the hibachi grille. I'm on the home stretch with this and will post pics when finished.

Thanks for the suggestions.
