Howdy all---I just scored what looks to be a really nice leather suitcase for my Speedster's luggage rack.  I would like to hear info on where to find antique luggage travel labels and how to apply them.

Nothing good on ebay and a Google search was unproductive.  Who has found good ones?  Are they waterproof and will they stay on the leather luggage like the old originals that held up after a lot of use.

I found a few a few years ago but they peeled off soon after applying them.

Thoughts? Ideas?  Suggestions?   Thanks !

Jack - I got my vintage luggage stickers from Laughing Elephant. After applying my stickers I then brushed them with decoupage to waterproof them and adhere better to suitcase. Link is below...

They have many options for style and genre and very inexpensive.

Uhhhhh..........  Aren't you down in Arkansas?   You sure you want a pair of snow skis down there?

I had thought of a pair of long guns (maybe a matched, his-and-hers pair of 12 ga Remingtons or something) but that honestly sounds a bit tacky.

Instead, maybe a couple of small clips of Orvis Fly Rods.  That would be nice.  If weather is an issue, just put them in their Orvis Rod travel cases and strap those puppies right on!  Vintage rods would be a bonus.  I'm still trying to find time to use my Dad's old Orvis Manchester rod.  The thing is a work of art.

You might even find some vintage fly-fishing travel stickers for the suitcase.  THAT would be the bomb!

Never travel with the status quo, Jack......

Gordon.

You know I'm reading this stuff, right???  And you know that I have no problem "replicating" the ideas of other SOC members, like I did with Jim's ski idea right?  I'll try to remember to give you credit for this great idea.

Maybe even adding a cool fish creel like this.

Can you email me high quality jpgs of those 4 labels?

Skis?

Puh-leeze......   Be creative, people!  Even the Germans have done skis!  There are ski areas in Northern Iran and South America!!  EVERYONE has done skis!

Think about stuff that you might do that would be cool!  Grill spatulas or something (I know...With my new heater, I can now do "pouch cooking" and use some of Julia Child's recipes, like garlic shrimp, Lemon Chicken Parisienne, a fresh filet of striped bass in lemon grass and a lite vinaigrette, maybe some flounder in "Herbs de Provence" for shorter trips, or maybe some Italian or Swedish meatballs for a hot grinder when you get there?.....YOU get the idea.  The sky's the limit when you have a gas heater!)

How about a decent axe or saw for you "North Woodsmen" out there?  Or an antique cordwood saw?  That's pretty light...  Strap it right on!

Or how about a (fake) guitar?  Maybe a "National" steel one (or not...)   'Heading out to a gig, huh?  You play rhythm or Lead? '

Or, if you're headed to wine country (and every part of the USA is "wine country"), then how about a couple of Magnums strapped back there?

I've been toying with the idea of getting a Leitz just to modify it to hold my Trek Madone road bicycle.  Now, THAT would be cool, and I think I could do better than this:

Just remember........Getting that rack is the start of a slippery slope.  Next, you'll be wanting the set of matched luggage for behind the seats:

Trust me, you don't want to go there.....

Troy:  On the stickers......Do a google search on "Fly Fishing Travel Stickers" and you'll probably find all that I posted and more (you don't think I work hard to find this stuff, do you?)

Really nice creel, BTW........

 Thanks Al

I didn't do very well in french class during my school years..    BUT!!!!    if you ask any of my girlfriends, they would all say I had a PHD in French kissing!!    VOILA!!!

lol

CARLOS:    That thing would fit perfectly on your spyder ..   Just make sure that you position it just right so the part between the frame and the front forks is where your head will be...   VIOLA!!   there ya go..

I went through Jackman Station, Maine, on a snowmobile, once, decades ago.  Even at the usual 50-60 mph we did on the trails, Jackman was gone in a blink.  The US has a border office that they set up on the main snowmobile trail just north of RT 201 at the Canadian border (it's a big and very popular area for sledding with lots of trails).  Used to be, you just flashed your US driver's license and they'd send you on your way.  Don't think that's true anymore.  gorgeous country up there, though.   Thanks for that photo, brought back nice memories of sledding with my brother.

Troy,  you like fishing, how about this one?

You may have to click the image to enlarge it.

Cliff.

Look closely at the suitcase on the black outlaw I just sold.

I also used decoupage like Jim recommends, but I do the entire suitcase because it is not perfectly clear and you will see it around the labels.  Decoupage is the only way to protect the labels.  Any humidity or sun exposure will cause them to come right off.  I also use 3M spray adhesive on the back, not just the  adhesive they come with.

Many thanks, Jim.  Rich Dreweck is bring some self-adhesive stickers to Carlsile for me---what a gem he is!  I hope mine turns out as well as yours.

Now for the snow skis!!

Jack, I have the same skis and poles as pictured on Jim's rack but you may not like the price.  If you are interested, IM me.  craig

VERY nicely done, Troy.

My hat is off to you!

That looks like an Orvis "Battenkill" reel.  I'm impressed!

Made me remember when I was a little kid, when a couple of guys would drive out to our farm from Boston, where they lived, so that they could spend a day in the country and fish the small brook that passed through my Grandfather's farm.  Once in a great while, one or both would catch a small trout, but most of the time they tried hard but came up empty.  Still, they thoroughly enjoyed their time in the woods and fields of our farm, far from the chaos of Cambridge, MA.  A few years back, as we were cleaning out my folks house after they passed, I found a christmas card from one of them and found he was a Professor Emeritus at a Boston University.  I guess the little things in life mean a lot.
