Made in Western Germany Plate

Stoddard sells a "Made in Western Germany" plate that they say is riveted under the hood of all 356's.

Does anyone know where this plate goes? I have the book "The 356 Porsche" by Dr. B. Johnson but couldn't find anything on this.

Cole, don't believe everything you read... If you did GERD would be our next super hero, after tax season of course! As for the plate I've never seen it but that doesn't mean it did not exist... You'll need to get feedback from some of the OLDER guys here...

Does your reference list the Reutter Color Plate and Serial Number plate that go on the removeable aluminum plate covering door hinges?

Sticking a "made in Germany" plate on a fiberglass replica....why?

I'm with Ron on why would you put one on a fiberglass replica.

BTW the reproduction one is for the late T-6 cars.


But if you must know it is installed to the right side of the fuel tank on a A or T-5 B through 61. The T-6B's (pg.79 & 80) it was in front of the tank.

While all of the responses were useful, Marty's was the most enjoyable. Is she made in Western Germany?

The question was asked "why put a plate on a fiberglass body?" Just having fun and trying it fool as many people as possible!

I've yet to meet anyone who knew the was a replica, obviously a knowledgeable Porsche person would, but I guess not many of them live up here in Northern Colorado.

Sorry, wrong again! There are 6 Speedsters north of Denver and over 20 original 356 owners (8 in Ft Collins) north of Broomfield. Lots of others "know" the details of our cars. As I have already told you we don't "fool" them but entertain them with lots of details and then show them how they, too, can have a Speedster in their own price range.

Even with all the little details on my car people who know and admire these cars can always "tell" they are not original.
