Inquiring minds want to know how! My son has gotten 3 photo tickets at same intersection for apparently not stopping fully before the white passenger crossing line when making a right turn on red. $50 a pop! He does stop - just apparently not before line --- plus there are never pedestrians at this intersection so its just a money maker. I've convinced him to take another route to college. I told him one more and he'd site at court house for 4 hours to contest it.
Yes, Wolfie, it is just a revenue maker. I got nailed by one in Illinois. No excuses are accepted for the " obvious proof" that one did something illegal. If one runs a stop light in the forest and no one sees it, is it illegal? Of course, and you'll be getting a citation in the mail soon.
I donated $100.00 twice:(

some of the newer radar detectors have built-in gps that features a speed/red light camera locator.
that should make them worth their weight in gold.
i also heard of a new cell phone application that serves as a you know who scanner!

Sorry, I was trying to download the url and it kept rejecting it. Must not have noted which heading I was on. It is in an article today in Gizmodo.com.

These tickets are the equivalent of a parking ticket. You see they dont have photo proof that your driving - as the camera is normally pointed at the back of the car... All they have is proof of the car & its tag. So they send these in in bulk hoping for people to pay. If no pay... Its the equivalent of not paying a parking fine.

Actually, out here at least, the cameras are DEFINATELY pointing at the front of the car and they are DANG good cameras...
We sold a car to a fellow who gave it to the son. Son didn't register it. Son drove though a very red light on a VERY busy intersection on Hollywood in California. The picture was stunningly clear. You could even see his adams apple, the little soul patch on his little boy chin etc. You could read the lettering on his baseball cap and see that he was wearing a ring on his left hand.
The ticket was written to me as the legal owner of the car. I had to pay the ticket to fight the ticket. I provided my driver's license picture and the ticket was cancelled, money refunded.

Oh my!
Here in Chicago-land every one I have gotten has been from the rear... As I dont have a front license plate.
And BTW, they are $100 each here too. Its a racket.

Front and rear depends on state/country laws. In Michigan, there are no front tags so it would have to be from the back. When I lived in Germany, they had front tags and shot the photo from the front. Two tidbits: 1) If you had a passenger, they were blurred out (in case you had somebody riding with you that you weren't supposed to) and 2) Motorcycles did not have front tags and were immune to the cameras. I saw a Harley Davidson Billboard with the slogan "no limits" on it with a guy rolling by a camera flipping it the bird.
