I have been lurking for quite awhile thinking about joining the fray.
I have looked at a couple of different cars and have decided to go the Beck route. The tube chassis/reasonable entry cost being the reasoning.
The two, cars I have looked at have been low miles (2K and 5K) and were in what I would call very good condition. One was three years old and the other two years old give or take.
Owners were both in the $20k to $25k range asking. considering the price of a new turn key vehicle, would it not be better to buy new for a few thousand additional?
Besides the buy new question, what do these cars typically change hands for on the uesd market. I see many for sale and many similar asking prices. But what do they actually trade hands for?
Has anyone recently bought a similar car?
This would be the determining factor on the new versus used question.
Thanks for your help.

If you're able, both skilled and knowledgable, you can find many of these cars used in several levels of disarray at bargain prices. At least two members here have 'cottage industry' activity in which they find and buy at reduced prices, make needed repairs or upgrades, and resell the cars for profit. Neither, BTW, operates in your area of the country though probably would grab a deal in any area.

Failing that you pay what the market demands. There's no way to generalize a "change hands for" pricing since that is an element of each individual sale that depends on the bargaining skills of buyer and the need for sale of seller.

Best advise is probably to find one that trips your trigger and buy it. It's useless to try to figure pricing to an expected lowest level. This is not the new Ford Fusion market.
Typically, I don't keep cars very long. So when buying, I have to consider resale value in the near future. Now I am a realist and do expect to lose dollars in exchange for enjoyment of a vehicle. I just want to limit the loss.
Yesterday, I arrived in Zurich for work. on my way to the hotel, I spotted a black and tan replica ( no idea what builder) parked on the street, I guess a sign that I have to purchase.
Beck is under two hours from me. Maybe I'll do a short road trip upon my return and try to learn a little more.
Thanks for the advice
