All,
I have looked my Vintage Speedster over and cannot find any markings/decals/plates of who built it or the original VIN number (74 VW).
I called Vintage and they told me about the little flap, between the seats, in the back, and that it is there. I looked, but couldnt see anything.

Take a pic of what you have under that flap. It should be there...both of my cars have it there...show us a pic please
If its a vw it should under the flap
Bear in mind that it is NOT an embossed label or anything that stands out when you look at it. When you lift the flap (or whatever one does on a VS) there should be a flat, exposed area of the original VW central tunnel and the number is simply stamped into the metal with letters/numbers about 1/4" high. They might be hard to see unless the light is just so.
Yea, i got up on there and looked fairly hard with a flashlight and couldnt see anything. Might be a little paint of some carpet glue hiding it. I can take a fine brush on my Dremel to it at some point.
In my Superformance Cobra they had two metal plates in different locations and the frame was stamped 5 different times. I just want to make sure if I get stopped an asked, that I can prove it. California has SB100 now which helps title cars and puts a sticker on them. A coup looking at my car isnt going to believe 1974 Volkswagon.

I understand why you want to know where the VIN is stamped on your car, for curiosity sakes, but satisfying a beat cop should not be one of your worries. If you can produce your license and registration, you're good to go in California. Any SB100 or registration concerns would be addressed by DMV, CHP, or BAR, and are not a concern on a traffic stop. Enjoy the ride!
Yes, VIN is on the title. I want to confirm it is on the car.
If you research SB100, you will understand I was very involved in how that came about. Getting a subpeona from the California State AG will wake you up.
As you mentioned, it is most likely just covered by paint or glue. No need to use a "fine brush" on a dremel, you can't brush it away. Just take a wire brush to it and I'll bet it's there.
If not, maybe you have one of the 3 cars that were stolen from Vintage a few years back!
