Maryland's governor was scheduled to sign MD House Bill 524 (HB524) this morning which would allow Historic and Street Rod registered cars 50 years or older to only carry a rear license plate. The 50 year old requirement was added as an amendment as the original bill was for anything older than 25 years. It is not the bill we wanted but it is a step in the door. Next year we will work to get the age requirement reduced.

I just carry my front plate in the car. Never had a problem -- hope I never do. So, if this is a '57 car, it is over 50 yrs old -- right??
We appreciate your efforts following this, Rob.
A few years ago I got a $50 ticket for no front tag on my Speedster but after the nice officer gave me the ticket he said I would be okay if it was inside my car instead of on the workbench at home.
NY has a single plate bill slated for May 5 vote. For the privilege of one plate, you have to PAY $50, every year. That's like getting one ticket every year, they are such FEE SUCKERS!
I think I'll take my chances with my plate behind the seat. I always forget to put it back on after a show....
It seems to me having to distribute one plate instead of two is a savings to each state so it's aggravating to not change the law.
On the other hand, my guess is the automatic plate readers that are installed on some patrol cars is the reason for delaying the changes and they can collect more fees that way for expired tags, etc.
