For 45 years my wife and I have been blessed to spend our vacation on Maui. This year we are here for 7 weeks with family and friends coming and going the whole time. I find time to relax between the entertaining and work on craft projects, write songs, play my guitar and plan my up coming road trips. OH yeah, do a little work while I'm at it. Today I escaped and drove to the other side of the Island to visit my friend Mike Pickett. I think this is our 4 year of getting together over lunch and a few cold ones. It's alway great to see him and go over our lives adventures over the past year. I had heart surgery just before coming on this vacation to remove a blockage. Mike has also had a few hick ups when it comes to health as well. I guess it just part of the deal as we get older. I enjoyed our visit a lot and pleased that Mike stays in contact with a few guys from the SOC. I hope in the near future my speedster will be completed and I can enjoy more of the camaraderie we share driving our clown cars.

Thanks David, I'm very fortunate to have my health somewhat intact and a great family and work crew that have helped make my life what it is. I don't believe I could have done it without them. It's all down hill from here, as they say ............ I'm still hanging on!!
So glad you got to see my friend Mike, Dave! I miss him here, but am glad you're both still kickin'!
That looks like a great trip in general and a most excellent tradition!
Need to ship your speedster over next time......

Yes Stan, he's a cool guy. never knew we had so much in common. Love" talk story" with him. That's an Island term for a BS session. We're pretty good at it by now. Alway glad to see him. All the best to you in your knee recovery.

It has been a great trip and I plan to return next year, but it time to come home. Hopefully the speedster will be waiting for me at Greg's. Lots planned for the rest of the year on the road. Maybe see you at Laguna Seca.

Hey Kevin, this would be the place for sure. My wife has her old license plate from her Miata days. It says "Maui 2 Go". I'm trying to convince her I need it. No luck so far.
I did rent a speedster here on Maui a few years back. Drove it all over the Island for 10 hours. Tried to get Mike to join me but he had Grandbaby duties so he had to pass. It was fun and I learned what I didn't like about that speedster. I had Greg implement the changes to my build when I ordered. Still waiting for its completion.

This 100%.....should be the mantra for all folks looking to purchase a speedster. There'd be a lot less 500-mile speedsters on the market if they did.
As I grow older and my body complains more, I can understand why the crotchety old man meme is so strong. Then, just to keep you guessing, you meet a guy like Dave Straub. I'm not sure that I've ever met a nicer human being. And he bought me lunch and a beer where we could BS away while looking out over the Pacific. What's not to like!
As I've said before, if any of you make it out our way, let me know. Getting to know folks you mostly encounter on the intertubes is always fun.
Thanks again for lunch and the handcrafted flower pot, Dave!
