As much as I try to keep my location a deep secret, hints about year-round driving and tranquil days under palm trees at the beach leak out.
File this under Maui problems. The speedster made a horrible metal on metal screeching sound when I backed out of the driveway today. I pulled back in and removed the driver's side rear drum to find the parking brake pivot pin all munged up in the bottom of the drum.
As far as I can tell, you can get brake shoes on island, but no luck finding a replacement pivot pin and retaining clip.
So, I ordered a pin and retaining clip from JBugs for $4.90 with shipping costs to be revealed after shipping. Fortunately, over the years they and some other vendors will ship with USPS rather than exclusively with UPS or FedEx. I'm probably only going to see shipping costs double what I paid for the parts rather than triple or quadruple.
Like I said, shed a little tear for me while I wait. Maui problems.
