Droooool.

Your engine. This car.
Perfect.
Stan, it's too cloudy tonight to see if the stars are aligning tonight.
Take my word for it: they are.
This car is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. EVERYBODY wants the look, and here it is. Everybody SHOULD want your engine and transaxle, but they have no idea what they are looking at.
They should get married, and make a monster.
If they really want to sell it, they may want to think about including more than one photo of it.

There's a link to a Flickr album in the body of the ad. It isn't immediately obvious, but if you read the text, you'll find it about 1/3 of the way down. For ease, here it is:
Think Henry removed from IM site when current owner was not being reasonable about price. High 30's is always where this car should have been. Beautiful car. If you want to be the envy of your friends here it is.
Such an amazing car. Beautiful.
I really like the integrated roll bar there by the door opening. Very nicely done.

Max has had this car for sale at $43k for quite some time. It appears that it is overpriced. He gives an area code of 415, putting it in the San Francisco bay area. Here are photos and ad information that appeared in the local PCA (Redwood Chapter zone 7) monthly poop sheet:

For Sale 2003 Intermeccanica
This was built for an engineer with an eye to duplicate a 1956 GS/GT Speedster. These are built in Vancouver BC with only a limited number built each year. They are the best of the best, and this one is pristine with only 33k miles. The body is one piece that is bonded & riveted to a boxed frame much like the Porsche 904. It is wonderfully constructed and rivals and even surpasses the originals in many respects. Four wheel disk brakes, IRS suspension, a 2110 cc type 1 engine producing 146 hp, with 150 ft. Lbs. of torque at 5200 rpm. This little gem will not disappoint. These are built by appointment only and the cost to duplicate this is around $70,000.
Asking $43,000.

If I were in the market for a Speedster, I would consider this one, but not at $43,000.
Obviously, adds, actual mileage and price are all over the place for this car. IM site is likely most accurate for price. Think the car could be bought for high 30's. Would be a bit skeptical about stated mileage since stated mileage is all over the place. Go back and look at Max's posts. Stated mileage doesn't exactly go in chronological order. Would think that an engine replacement or rebuild would likely be less than 30,000 miles away. I wanted this car when I bought mine. High price, then $45K, high mileage and west coast location were all negatives for me. Asking price of $39K on IM site is bringing things a bit more in focus.
I don't agree that it is over priced. I think that the issue may be that it is such a 'singular' Speedster, that it will take just the right buyer to appreciate it. Not everyone wants the stripped down Outlaw look - many first time buyers want a car that more mimics a Porsche 356.
That said, it's a beautiful car, and someone should be very happy with it.
Bob, I agree that the car would be great for the right buyer, but as evidenced by the car's being for sale for several months with no one coming up with the asking price, I still feel it is overpriced. Speedster buyers might just have specific features in mind---at least those who are previous owners. If it were priced to sell, it would have been gone by now. I would guess that if someone walked up with $35,000 CASH, the seller would think hard about such an offer. It's a nice car, but in my book, the seller needs to be flexible in order to get the car out of his garage/inventory.
If the car was built for a California customer US import then it was built as a car without a trans axle and engine and imported into the US,then the drive train was installed in the US(California)or somewhere was it not?
What is it that makes anyone believe that this car is overpriced? Is it the age? Car was built in 2003. Perhaps the condition! Color not to your liking? I don't think that has anything to do with it! I think you have established a mindset that a used Speedster is only worth $$$$$,whatever that number is. This is a "one of a kind" car, built by Intermeccanica. As stated, the replacement value for a car of this stature is at least $70,000.00, in today's economy. Older, does not mean valueless! This is not a car for the average speedster guy looking for his first car. A highly desirable car for someone that is looking for a very close facsimile to an original mild outlaw. You get what you pay for! Although the car is 11 years old,it looks "as new"! No other manufacturers car that I have seen, even comes close to the quality of the IM built cars. I am not looking to start a riff. Someone will buy this car,and will enjoy it for many years to come. Not your cup of tea, don't put your money down! Intermeccanica is the gold standard by which all other cars are measured. Stop comparing apples to oranges! Oh boy, here we go!!! I released the Krackin!
As an IM owner I hope Max gets real 356 money. Mo money for me. But after a year of advertisements I think the market has spoken.
As Bob mentioned, the outlaw look isn't for everyone (although I like it a lot). That may have diminished it's resale potential somewhat.
I really like the color, but when I showed it to my wife her response was, "Yuck".
$38,000/$39.000 should be it's sweet spot. We'll see....
It's the color.
You either like it, or you don't. Stone Gray is an exceedingly "German" color, and I'd guess less than half the world likes it. It takes a lot of "I don't care" to shoot your car that color
... but that's the thing about this car. The whole thing demands that you take it on its own terms. No bumpers, no side-trim, no caps, no gas-gauge, plain-Jane ribbed mats, paint the color of Illinois clay. It takes restraint and clarity of vision to commission a car like this. It all works together perfectly.
I'm pretty firmly in the "less than half" camp. I love this car. It's the most righteous speedster I've ever seen, replica or no. It's just going to take a special kind of owner.
absolutly perfect-thinking of taking my classic speedster to the outlaw/racing side.
SOLD and no I did not buy it. I did go look at it and drive it, great car...
So....what was the selling price?
I'm guessing 38k
I have no idea what he got for it, I would guess close to what he was asking.
I'm glad it sold. Someone is getting a very unique IM Speedster.
As for the colour, it does sort of grow on you...and I don't mean like a fungus.
Here's some more shots of that car:

That looks like Scott Sloan's old car. If so, they don't get much better. Wonderful car.

And it always will be Scott's car. It was his remarkable vision that produced such an icon.
Some of the pictures show the car with a hood handle and some without. Was the handle added by Scott or after it was sold? Not sure which way I prefer, but it's a beautiful car for sure.
After Max bought the car from Scott he put hood handle on car. He also placed expensive magnesium wheels. Wheels were swapped for original steel wide fives before sold.
Phil, are the expensive wheels the ones that are on SAMBA for $750 each.

I have always liked the stone grey color. It shouts "bad boy," and works well for a car that usually shows up in the more common beige, black or red.
The only change I would make is to trim out the interior in Katz leather in a dark wine color.
Wow. Beautiful wheels. If you look carefully some of the many pictures on Max's posts had these wheels. Tecnomagnesio. Thanks Ron I had forgotten the name. $3200 for 4. Don't blame him for switching them out. Max actually owns a number of real 356s. Sure he can them on one of them. The ultimate wide 5.
