Well its been a year and I have made some great friends on the SOC. Last year I set up a road trip to The Del Coronado Hotel. Now it's time to do it again!

The plan is to meet in Long Beach Ca at Denny's on Bellflower Blvd.
Denny's is located 2 blocks north of the 405 fwy off the Bellflower exit. Take the North exit.

We will leave at 10:00 am sharp so we can get passed the traffic early. I will be at Denny"s around 8:30 am to have breakfast so anyone who would like to come out and eat an talk Speedsters is welcome to meet up.

Now if I sell the car at Knott's we will still make the trip I will just have to ride with someone.

Vince, David, et. al.: I am planning to join you guys for the ride to the Hotel Del on Saturday May 14th. I think we can get some other guys to hook-up along the way and / or meet us at the Hotel. Have you finalized the details of the back country route? If the route could be mapped or described others who live along the way could join us as we pass by. I think Fran Mulato, David Balser, Chuck Hirsch and others would love to drive along with the group and maybe venture back up the coast with us for a few miles after we leave The Del. Whaddya think?
Bill that sounds like a great idea. I don't think I could make the entire trip all the way down to SD on the 14th, but I would be interested in hooking up with you guys as you go through OC and riding most of the way down, may be over to Elsinore and some back canyon driving. Please post the route and what time you guys are heading down.

I will keep checking back.

To all concerned....
I will post a proposed route this weekend, to give everyone a chance to have input....I think to start we will meet in Long Beach and take the 405 to Ortega Hiway and then on to Lake Elsinore.. from there is still a mystery, but I will plan it this weekend and post what I think will be a cool ride......
Anyone coming from the Valley (Kevin M.) will take the 405 and I will meet up with them as they pass Redondo Beach....
OK dudes and dudettes....this will be a good run.....
Meet in Long Beach at the Denny's (directions to be provided
by David S. shortly) lets say 8:30, leave 8:45 or so to the 405S,
to Ortega highway (74)east, lake Elsinore will be a good Kodak moment...15S, to 76E, to S6 South, (skirts the 15, lots of twisties)
to 78E to 67S to 8W to 15S to 5N to the bridge crossing into Del Coronado.....
I actually mapped this out, it will work....check it out, get back to me with comments and/or suggestions...
Wow!! This event is now covered by the 356 Registry and listed in their events Calender. This should be interesting. And it looks like they are going to send some people out to cover the event as well.
Vince if you need to reach me over the next couple of days give me a call at this number 1-972-870-0530 And ask for DAVID SALVATO
Talk to you soon.

Kevin, Resort room starts at 315.00 per.. Partial ocean view at 410.00 per... or full ocean at 510.00 per .....Thats what is available for a single night of the 14th of May, 2005.....that was from the hotel itself, I tried one of the on-line sites and they said all full......
Unless you know something I don't..........
I'd have to check with my right seater, but I think we are free to stay..prices are a little steep but, lightening could strike me dead the next day, and I would have missed out....
I just bought tickets to see the Eagles at the Pond (suprise for my wife's birthday) cost me a set of Wide whites for the speedster...
or close to it..........
without looking at actual miles, Im thinking 30 minutes from long beach to ortega hiway, 45 minutes to lake elsinore, 90 minutes
minimum to the hotel....so you do the math.....3 hour tour min.
one way to the hotel....We can change our route at any time after we reach lake elsinore cause we basically are just a few miles from the 15 heading south after that.....I just tried keeping us off the freeway as much as possible....any california map will show the route I chose and it is open for negotiation......
Just had a conversation with David B who lives in San diego,
He is mapping an alternate route in the san diego area for us....
We should have a firm route by the weekend....I'm trying to make this fun for everyone, we have no choice but to have some freeway driving, but i want to add some canyons also....
By the way, you do not need to have a speedster to be a part of this..All cars are invited....we are all car guys, who just enjoy
our rides....
Hey Vince & David,

Take a look at this site:
www.carolmendelmaps.com/mapsd/San-Diego-map.html

Scroll down to 2nd map, point and click at oceanside and you can follow many different routes to final destination.

Check this route: 405(S) to 5(S), 76(E) to 79(S) to 78(W) to 67(S) to 54(S), 5(S) to Palm Ave. (W) & back up to Hotel Del Coronado

Gabe
Everyone,
Had a long conversation with David B. last night....
forget all previous routes....We broke this up into 2 sections,
He will be responsible for getting us to the hotel from the La Costa exit of the 5 freeway and I will be responsible for getting us to that location from long beach.....David knows San Diego like the back of his hand....(or somebodys hand) I told him we want some canyons and multi-million dollar homes to look at, we will get both
plus a lake.....I will map out leaving long beach along the coast heading south and picking up the 5 along the way....
we should have something firm by the weekend....
We will have a little bit of everything along the way as far as scenery......so everyone should be happy. David is also getting some San Diego cars to join us, Thunder Ranch Spyders and others...
The route from La Costa to Coronado will be a lot of fun. We will be going through Rancho Santa Fe, around the Del Dios Highway overlooking Lake Hodges and head toward Highway 15. These will be twisty roads with a few chances to clear the carbon. A very short stint down 15, 1/4 mile, and on to Highland Valley Road which is a back country road 16 miles long with nothing but hairpins, jackrabbits, and great scenery. Highway 67 will be a wide open run of 23 miles of country road taking us downhill into Lakeside. Talks are underway to make a short pit stop at Thunder Ranch to see their operation and I will confirm that next week. From there we will head west through East County on some nice roads toward the coast. South on Highway 5 for 7 miles and exit at Highway 75. We will now head "north" up the peninsula on the Silver Strand with the ocean on the left and the bay on the right for an 8 mile drive to the Hotel Del. I will have detailed directions for all cars upon arrival.
Dave Balser
WOW, if that doesn't get you guys excited, I'm afraid viagra is all thats left........
I feel like a piker not having detailed info right down to the mileage for the first leg of our journey... David even drove the course to be sure it worked for us..
We will meet at the Denny's in Long Beach (address still to be determined)8:00 leave 8:30 take PCH south to Dana Point and then to the 5 South, we will exit the 5 at La Costa Ave, Right turn to the Chevron....The plan is to be at that point by 10:30....
seems do-able....
We can exchange cell phone numbers at the Denny's in case we get separated.....
