Left Torrance in a downpour so i decided to take the Caddy, cleared before we arrived at the meeting point, the rest of the day was warm to hot, Gerd got us lost on a road he frequents often, finally arrived at the crash spot and paid our respects...Ate lunch at Newcomb Ranch and headed back down the hill...
10 cars, 18 SOC'ers...thanks to all who attended, good showing for the first annual memorial to Mr. Bill, especially considering the early morning showers...
WHAT AN AWESOME DAY
GOT HOME AND IT HAD THUNDER, LIGHTENING AND FLASH FLOODS WHILE WE WERE GONE.
WE MISSED IT ALL AND HAD A BEAUTIFUL BLUE SKY DAY
YEP I GOT US LOST BY ABOUT 20 MILES BUT IT WAS A GREAT DRIVE. BILL MUST HAVE BEEN LAUGHING HIS ASS OFF
THANKS TO ALL AND LETS DOUBLE THE SIZE NEXT YEAR
SIDE NOTE: THE BARTENDERS AT NEWCOMBES WERE WORKING THE DAY BILL DIED AND STILL RECALL THE EVENT. THEY HAD TO DEAL WITH WITH ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAPPENED UPON THE ACCIDENT AND THEN DESCENDED ON THE BAR TO DISCUSS WHAT THEY SAW. AFTER ONE YEAR THERE WAS STILL SMALL PIECES OF BILLS CAR IN THE BRUSH ALONG THE HIGHWAY
THANKS TO ALL

I am so sorry we missed this. I was at an early a.m. function in Lk Forest and haven't heard thunder like that since a trip to Boston many years ago. Figured Bill was a ltl pissed off having to be up there watching everyone making a decision (to drive the Speedy or not) given the weather.
Sounds like all went well and hope to see you all soon.

It was a great Memorial Run for Bill. Thanks Gerd for putting it together. I enjoyed seeing everyone. A long trip for me, over 600 miles, I think. On the way home I was in the middle of two thunderstorms, the likes of which I have never seen before. Instant flooding on the street and had to slow to a crawl to see out the windshield with the wipers going full blast. By the way, the 914 is pretty much waterproof. Here are a few pictures:

We took the wrong turn. Here is Wil giving us directions.

Here is the line-up.

The crash site.

And, the toast to Bill.

GERD, thank you for putting together this run as a way to say "WE MISS YOU!" to Bill. It also was a chance for me to say Good-Bye to him. I was out of town when this happened last year, and I really would have liked to have been able to attend his memorial service, but could not make it. Seeing you guys yesterday, and going up the mountain made up for that. Like Larry said, it was worth every mile.
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in person and in spirit on Saturday. I was tenative to go to the site again but once I arrived at Starbucks and felt the love I knew I had to. Thank you to Larry, checkers and Roger for allowing me to rid with you :D
Mr. Bill loved his SOC family so much, I don't believe I can ever express that enough to you guys, you opened up a whole new world for him a few years ago and he felt so connected. Thanks again ! Much love and respect, Nancy
