I'm looking for either mesh or wire headlight grill covers for a new VS speedster. I recently saw a set (mesh for 356/VW) on ebay and the bidding was at $200+ and still hadn't closed. The set from Tweeks, from what I am told ($99), will not fit on a VS type replica.

Any help, phone number, place to order is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

There are two types (I think) of grilles (wire mesh) One does appear to bolt to the body and the other, which I have, mounts to the chrome headlight surround. Mine are not mounted yet but will be soon. I just finished putting on a new top that I've been trying to get to for a year.
I got them from carerraclassics dot com. I have seen some negative things on this forum about them, I had to bug them for 3 weeks to get mine delivered after I had paid them. They had excuses mostly blameing the Post Office and ripped address lables, but I did get them and they appear to be good quality. The mounting hardware seems to be good too. I will post apicture when I can get them done. I paid $200 plus shipping.

Thanks everyone for replying....but to my original post, it looks like I got some bad information on the ones from Tweeks. A buddy of mine on this forum mentioned to me that his set from Tweeks worked with no problem on a VS, so I ordered a set. They went on without any problem, no drilling, etc. They actually fit perfectly. However, they do replace the glass cover. But, with the thumb screw that comes with the set, it is very easy and quick to remove them for cleaning out the bugs, etc.

Thanks again everyone for the information.

The grills do work with the glass in place . For an example of how it looks go and view Greg B's speedster in the files. You have to in place of using the knurled screw that comes with the grills use your original screw to secure the grills to the adapter that comes with the grills which know holds your headlight buckets in place. The spacer goes between the body and the tab of your headlight bucket. Kirk uses a piece of black rubber tubing. You might also have to bend the tab on the grill. It is really easy to do. A word of advice place some masking tape above the headlight bucket on the body so that when you push up on the bucket to remove it you dont scratch your paint.

I just called Real Source. The guy I spoke to said the didn't carry rock guards for Speedsters, for other models, not Speedsters or anything that old. Does anyone know the price and model number, if bought from Real Source? Maybe its for some later model that fits a Speedster. Also, would it fit a JPS?

I payed $99.oo I went out to try on one a while ago and it wont fit over the vw lens,, Seems like I asked about this. They may go back!!

Lets see what lens Jerry put on his speedster Before I give up on these.

AH Ha. I see... Well I looked at Jerry's under Greg's b and saw what he did again, this time noticed the gaps,
He is running the same lens. as mine.I am going to keep these and dye grind off the inner lip ,except for the tangs that go under the bezel to hopefully make them lay comlpetely flush!!! Fit and finish are a must to me.
