From the round taillights, it's a 1953, the same as the one I had years ago. They are a fun ride, if you can install running gear from an MGA, or even a B. With the stock 1250 cc engine and standard rear end, they don't run well at highway speed. Or a V8?? The gear shift lever does not look standard for a TD.
I took mine down to the bare frame, had to replace part of the wooden body frame, and rebuilt everything else. This one is missing the rear frame cover (sorry, can't remember the correct name.
You need some Brooklands windscreens so you can fold down the windscreen and feel like you're doing 80 at 40. 
That car would be a viable project if priced right around "free."
Probably worth about $8k in parts though, if truly rust-free.
Look around. There are pretty good driver TDs available for about $11k-$13k. That one needs about $6k to get there. Assuming the wood is good.
I thought that was a smokin deal? Got a friend restoring a '64 AH3000 - seems it's worth $60-75k. Or maybe that's what he'll have invested in it when he's done? Guess the fabled story of Lucas - Prince of Darkness has gotten around. Remember his loyal dog - MOWOG?

You're probably correct - I'd even go with the 6 speed trans! A used 2016 Miata engine with 65 miles is $2200 and it's matching trans is another $649 --- now the electronics and ECU would probably be a nightmare! It would be a sweet ride though. Much as I like wire wheels - not so sure about ones near 70 years old!
The big Healeys are getting crazy spendy. MGAs are getting dear, maybe peaking. TR3s, 4s and especially 250s, too. MGT cars continue to stagnate. TFs are worth more than TDs, and TCs are worth more than TFs. I expect this trend to endure.
The Miata engine would be tough to fit in a T-car because of the way the engine bay narrows.
I'd like to get a basket case MGA and Miatify it, then apply "Twin Cam" badges. I would like to adapt a couple big SU carbs to the Miata mill though. MG purists would hate it.
