Okay, Dude. Here are some options for the Carerra decklid project.
The first one is a pair of spring-tensioned key release hooks. They're cool in a 'hasn't been seen much' kind of way. The rest are more or less traditional bonnet straps with all the hardware for less than it would cost to make some, and a final set of metal ones from an old American saloon.
Let me know what you think.

Or, also for about $20.00, my personal favorites:

In the off-the-wall, TC-would-approve category, THESE would eliminate the under-hood arms from the CMC-style lid; I'd guess they would mount up just fine with minimal problems and you'd have your cake while eating it:

(I found a picture of how that last set appear in nature on a 1937 Ford; http://www.edavidprice.com/tri-statecruisers/images/37Ford3.jpg -- and they look like they're about door-handle sized.)

Funny that you would mention me in the same breath as those early Ford hinges . . . I going to run TR3 hinges, for ans aft on the 356 Coupe. The TR3 hinges are a near dead ringer for those Ford suckers just scaled down a bit for the Triumph, which makes 'em PERFECT for the 356.

I don't feel bad in doing this since the Porsche Abarth used a similar hinge, as did any number of "specials" on the period based on VW and Porsche underpinnings. Those hinges and some leather straps and the look is era perfect and easy peasy.

Still weird that you bagged me though . . . .
You mentioned them a year or so ago on the phone, as I recall. I couldn't remember what you said they were from, but you were right. The louvres are only taking up the bottom two-thirds of the decklid. The top, otherwise naked, could use some flash treatment.
They're perfect for that!
Thanks Cory!
Those small brown straps, but in black, was what I was visualizing. I'm gonna see how the current set up works out and then proceed. I've been kickin some ideas around my head about a few "vintage racer" add ons. I gotta see where I'm at once I get it on the road and I can sit back and soak it up. I want to get those wide 5's on the front, get the ride height set proper, and then I'll have a better idea of which direction I want to go.
I love where you're going with this. Period correct, but not concours, just like they were back in the day. More though was put into how well it worked then whether or not the factory designed it that way.

If you want new chrome, you could probably get a set of TR-3 hinges from Moss Motors or Victoria British. Just remember not to mount them too far apart or the curve across the width of the deck lid would be an issue. You might have to do some experimentation to get it just right.
