Stanguellini also made very successful formula (open wheel) cars that were quite unbeatable in their day. Saw a Stanguellini formula car at a vintage sportscar race at the Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach. The great thing about this car was the way it was brought to the track. An old Citrion sedan pulled in next to us with a home made single axle trailer in tow, both the car and the trailer were somewhat ratty looking. On the trailer was a vehicle covered with an old army hospital tent converted into a tarp (even had the faded red cross on it). Two men got out of the car, both in their 70's, one wearing a beret, the other a greek fisherman's cap. Both had cigeretts hanging out of their mouths. They took the "tent" off the car which also had a regular car cover on it. After tthe cover came off there sat a pristine red Stanguellini formula car. The men looked like they just walked out of a 50's photograph taken at some european race track. Through-out the weekend they tinkered with the car, hollered at each other in Italian and were never seen without the proverbial lit cigerett in their mouths. Kept us entertained all weekend.
Seems this should be a new topic.

Two week-ends ago we were at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and saw hundreds of "vintage" race cars. This is the only vintage sports car race in the US run through city streets (Schenley Park) and is quite the difficult place to race with off camber turns, stone walls and crowned roads. Picture is how we go racing.

I can just picture those guys with the cigs, classic old school, and we know how I likes the old school! Great story Jeff. My buddy was out at the Pittsburg gig with his Lotus 7 though I haven't talked to him since he's been back.

Cory,
Though I appreciate you putting that picture up I must advise you to stick to the rules of the site and refrain from posting any more pornography.
Not that handy. We found it on E-Bay, located in the state of Washington. It had a fire in the rear section and a guy boubht it, did the conversion (diamond plade bed, 20,000# wench, hydraulic tilt bed) and used it as a race car hauler for his daughter. We flew to Washington and drove it cross country 4 years ago. Its an 1984 motor home. We paid $5000 for it and it gets more interest than our 63 Mini Cooper.
