Ok. I'm in. What's the plan?! When and where do we meet up? When and where are we going?
Okay all...and Noel,
We'll meet Saturday morning in the Auburn Holiday Inn parking lot at 9:30. I'll go over our route while we wait for the fashionably late. We'll leave the parking lot at 10:00 sharp. We'll head up highway 49 towards Grass Valley. We will stop at the Chevron station at 49 and Combie Road. Those who need to top off can do so. Those who need to pick up lunch can do so at the Subway restaurant. Yes, you should pack a picnic lunch. Yes, you do have enough room in your little plastic car. Those of you that were too fashionably late will have an opportunity to catch up while we are gassing and stocking up.
We will continue up towards Grass Valley on the twisty back roads. We will then continue up 49 and onto highway 20 through Tahoe National Forest. We'll hop onto hwy 80 briefly and exit at Cisco Grove to continue up Historic highway 40. 40 will take us through Donner Summit and bring us to Truckee. Then we'll jump on 89 into Tahoe City and down to our lunch stop - either Sugar Pine Point or Meeks Bay. Andie's checking tomorrow to see who'll give us the best parking prices as they both charge per car.
After lunch we'll continue on 89, past Emerald Bay and Camp Richardson and into South Shore, Tahoe. We'll proceed onto highway 50 and head back down through the foothills towards Placerville. We'll pick up highway 49 and go through Coloma and Cool and head back to the Holiday Inn in Auburn. All in all, a little less than 200 miles round trip. Some of you might want to continue down 50 and cut the drive a little short. We can talk escape routes later.
That's it. Bring a cooler, sunscreen and lunch. See you Saturday!
RYAN:
OH HE JUST PAINTED A PRETTY PICTURE DIDN'T HE???
here's the real scoop!!
Just heard from a friend of my that works at orchard supply in Auburn..
Seems Terry just purchased several Hoe's rakes, shovels and 6 wheelbarrows. Was overheard mentioning that several of his friends were coming by this weekend to help take care of some much needed yard work on his 20 acre palatial estate up there.
Hmmmmm notice how he spelled Hoe? like in HOE those weeds?
But I'm going up any way!! I have to deliver some empi moons..
Best regards,
Tebs
Tebs, relax.
I had the PCA guys do the work last week. We're good to go.
Terry, great drive route. Thank you again for putting this together. I will have to drive over Saturday morning but should make the 10am leave time.

I say we pan for gold and use Ryan's ill fitting moon hubcaps "GOT TO GET ME GOLD" !!
MY gold is Guinness!!!

Seriously. I took a mallet to one of them this past weekend. Insanity. Still couldn't get the darned thing on. I need professional help.
(But I'm totally going to get a picture panning with my hubcap)

Ryan, you could have avoided this if only you'd read Terry Nuckels' 2008 best seller The Dangers Of Investing In Small Caps.
If you see Tebs this weekend, ask if you can borrow his copy - he reads everything Terry has ever written.
Yes, Tebs referenced the book regarding the use of a small cap for gold panning. Personally, my favorite is using the small cap for a campfire wok.

This changes as we get older. Small caps can be useful for retirement panning, too.
But there's such a thing as having too many small caps. Holding onto a few, but balancing them with some large caps is what most retirement panners recommend these days.
I'll send you a link (Glympse) where you can track our location on Saturday.
If anyone has any extra baby moon hubcaps, please bring one. I'd like to see if yours fits my wheel (and points me in the right direction for replacements in the future). I'll even let you use mine for gold panning.

220 miles. A meat bee picnic. Gorgeous day and great company.
More later.
264 miles of grins. The only thing better than driving my Speedster is driving it through the mountains of California surrounded by other beautiful Speedsters. Photos and movies to come.
Great day! Nice seeing friends and meeting new ones. Ryan, I have 3 new hubcaps that might (maybe) fit. I'm in Rocklin.

That would be amazing. I'm glad I got some in-person confirmation that I'm not crazy for having a hard time with my hubcaps, er gold pans.

Meat bees are actually Yellowjackets which are wasps. They don't sting but they have a nasty bite and can be very aggressive.
One time during a search and rescue operation in the Kaiser Wilderness some Yellowjackets made a picnic out of me. I was off trail looking for a lost subject when I stepped onto a decaying log. Unfortunately for me Yellowjackets had made a nest out of that decaying log. When I stepped onto it my boot sunk in pretty far. About a dozen or so Yellowjackets made it into my many leg and another half dozen or so got between the thick hip pad of my pack and my stomach. I have never run so fast off trail with a thirty-five pound pack on my back but it only took what seemed like a few seconds to run about 200 yards. I came away somewhat unscathed but suffered nearly 18 bites.
I always carried Zyrtec when I hiked and took one right away to avoid any issues and to help ease ay potential allergic reactions. The pain lasted a few hours but but other than that no permanent effects.
Yeah, it was a great day. Not too hot, no breakdowns, nice driving conditions and the roads were smooth and relatively free of traffic. Always fun to share some of my favorite roads. We saw a few of the P cars in Tahoe as they celebrated the PCA Treffen in Squaw Valley.
Doing 200+ miles in an open car on a warm, sunny day can take a bit out of you and I salute my fellow enthusiasts who joined Andie and I for this one day tour. Stephen "Badspd", with his badass 912, Ron & Karen, Mike, Paul, Ryan, Noel and, of course, Tebs! Thanks for participating in this year's Mini Tour d'Hoe. We'll do the weekend version next year, okay?
Great shots next time cover your nuts (lug)

Actually, Ted, Tebs is like a meat bee whisperer. He makes this nasally sound that somehow pacifies them. Tebs is a man of many talents.
