Question on placement of the driver and passenger mirror
I have seen some placed on top of the fender about 18 inches from the door. I have seem some on the fender right at the point where the door and fender meet. I have seen some that have the mirror on the door. What is better and why. I am looking to drive the car as much as possible with the exception of bad weather. what placement location gives me maximun visibilty with the top up?
thank you
Gerd

Gerd - my advice would be to put your side-mirrors on the front fenders so that you see them through your windshield.

If you put them on the door tops or near the door/body seam, you'll be looking at your mirrors through your side-curtains (when they're in place), which will really limit your view.

Ask your builder's advice about maximum side-mirror visibility. As you've noticed, there are a few ways to mount the side-mirrors. Luckily, if you're going for authenticity, Porsche put 'em all over the place, too.
Gerd - my car is a replica of a 1958 356 Carrera GT, which was a bare-bones racing version of the Porsche Speedster. The car has no side trim, rocker trim, hood handle, or hub-caps. The Carrera racing mirrors (painted aluminum shells) are correct for the car. Plus, they work great. I even had a convex mirror made for the right-side.

Gerd, IMHO place it within arms reach when you are sitting in your driving position. Just because I've had to adjust from time to time during traffic. They are small and a convex mirror is a must have for sure.

John - I just love your car! When my car grows up I want it to be just like it. : )
