The time has come for me to part with my beloved Speedster. I've had Inga for nearly 8 years, and I've loved every minute. The trouble is, with my second child on the way, it's time for me to get a "practical" car. Those of you who have a copy of the 2005 SOC calendar will recognize my car as Miss October. She's still as beautiful as the day that photo was shot. I love this car dearly, and it pains me to give it up.

The car was sold to me in '99 as a '97 VS. I don't have much technical info on the car. I didn't have any part in the motor build, so I can't really elaborate much on that aspect. I can tell you that the car is quick, and pulls much stronger than I would have expected.

I'm asking $16,000. The car is located in Fremont, CA. I'll eventually be listing it on ebay and through local sources, but I wanted to offer it here first.

I can be reached at mbyard(at)mcn(dot)org.

Thanks for looking,
-mike

Here's some new info for anyone that's interested. (Cross posted from an e-mail to Mark)

I found some notes I had on the car from the previous owner. He told me that he installed a 1600 before selling it. Apparently he wanted to keep the 2.2L for another car. Too bad for me! I wish I knew more about the engine build. Like I said in the forums, this car pulls stronger than the other 1600's I've driven. The rear end is swing arm from a '62, front is from a '65 with ball joints and adjustable torsion rods. 4 wheel drums on wide 5 hubs.

Paint is excellent, only a few small rock chips. Interior also very good, some wear at left foot rest and right heel. The mahogany door rails were my own addition, one of only 2 sets I have made. I still have the originals and they will go with the car. Top, rear window and side curtains all very good. 17,572km (~11,000mi) not sure about miles on engine. I bought the car with ~6,000km, so if what the PO told me is true, it could be around 3,000mi.

This car has always been garaged, and was only caught in the rain once while I've had it. The undercarriage looks good, not spotless, but solid. About a year ago I had the throttle cable snap, so it is new. At the same time I replaced the front engine/transaxle mount since the old one looked bad. I've always kept this car well maintained, with regular oil changes and valve adjustments. I'm also including all of my VW maintenance books and such.
Not completely true. I check this site 4-5 times a day 5 days a week looking for a car. Almost had Esther Harper's car but some @#$& beat me to it! I'm looking for a JPS or Vintage black exterior tan interior or an ivory exterior tan interior in Southern California. There has to be something out there!
Mike,
The speedster is great. It is the perfect car for the perfect Price, at the worst time for me. I am actually looking to get one, but haven't had the finances to come through. I am just a few months off target, but overall the car sounds awesome. Hopefully soon, and good luck.
Jose
I'm finally getting around to relisting this car after the sale fell through. All info is still good, and the price is $15,000 for SOC members.
