It been a while since I reported on the progress on my speedster, which is now officially dubbed as the "The Black Sheila".

Before you ask why call it "The Black Sheila" believe you me get the wife to name the car and she will feel part of the project and give her blessing on a bigger spending budget

With lots of help received from this forum (thanks Guys) I got to a point where the car was about 80% complete refer to the pictures attached.

While rushing to complete the car in the short time I have (I work in Angola) I got visited by two friends also members of the forum as usual we had the MADNESS talk and it was pointed out that the front end of my speedster is not correct the headlamps is two inches higher than the originals, I verified this and my headlamps is two inches higher the molds where changed to comply with the vehicle certification something like that nevertheless.

Starting this project my aim from the beginning is to build a speedster which closely represents cosmetically an original.

I decided to have the front end modified to obtain the more authentic look, at the same time I also DECIDED why the heck not lets do the rear seat correction....... easier said than done. I am quite confidant my builder will find a solution.

The car went back to the builder a month ago, this week he completed the front-end mods refer to pictures.

Next week he will commence the rear seat correction i will keep the forum posted, as this is a first for the builder its a first for me too, the front-end used a coupe casting which is very accurate to an original for the rear seat correction we will also use the coupe interior which will require minor mods to fit.

I received my Bucket seats which is 99.9% copy of an original seat produced locally, the seat mounts purchased from the USA, blended the seat mounts to the bucket...... got my perfect and correct seats under 100USD.

Last week I received the Stayfast soft top, Stayfast quarter tonnaeu and side curtains from VS, today we did a semi-fitment to a friends car to verify the fitment, we found no problems,  VS tops do fit our speedster.

Status:

Received the seat rails also from VS

Received two Classic flat four air cleaner assemblies

Currently awaiting new engine cooling tins and fan shroud

Removing alternator and fitting a Bosch generator going for more authentic look besides 30 Amps is more than sufficient.

Steel Bumpers fitted front and back

Scissor roof bow mechanism (WIP)

New Wiring harness

SO far so good still lots of work ahead

APAL of Belgium has bought tooling rights from Intermeccanica to manufacture 356 Speedster in Europe in 1981, but the car has to be approved by european authorities to be sold on the european market (crash test, lighting, external projections, seat belt etc...).
At this year, european laws impose to car manufacturers a minimum headlight height from the ground (50 cm I think). So APAL has to modifie the front of the Intermeccanica Speedster body to complies with headlight beam standard. APAL also has to modifie bumpers due to external projections european standards in the 80's.
Then others Speedster manufacturers, as Chesil in UK, PGO in France and many others manufacturers in the world have cloned the APAL Speedster.
As a result a lot's of Speedster replicas in the world have not the correct front.
For example Speedster replicas built in South Africa look very similar to RHD Chesil Speedster from UK...
