I know on my Harley straight pipes were a must, just the sound was enough to let the drivers around you that you were there. I have the monza 4 chrome tip exhaust system. Has anyone ever knocked out the stuff in the tips to see if it was a bit louder? If you look in the tips there is some extra stuff with holes in it to quiet it down.

All I know is that they're loud as hell; at least the imported EMPI versions. I had an original Monza back in the early '80's in a Ghia I used to have and I recall the sound was throaty but not as loud as the newer knock-offs. Some can even activate car alarm systems; just like a good ol' rice burner with a 6" tailpipe.....
