Oh boy!
I'm gone for 4 days and look what I come home to.

There is plenty of room for expansion and change for the venue. I talked to Dusty a couple of days after the event and let him know that after deeply considering and talking to legal council, I would not be sponsoring any future events. This site is really just about fun for the members and events can and have become a liability. A single visit to a lawyer for a minor problem would kill the few hundred dollars a year this site makes and keeps in reserves. I have always said that when expenditures exceed income for this site, I can no longer keep it going. A few bad seeds making reservations and not sending the money killed the site reserves for last years events. The now famous tail of the dragon incident, could have done it this year.

I am all for members building a show-and-shine get together event amongst each other.

John Leader started this make shift event years ago and did a great job. Then Mike Crouch took over and also did and excellent job, building on what had been started. Dusty, you have done a fine job and continued to grow the fun. Blake and Jen, you are well suited to try to better the event.

This site is about fun, not profit, not control. From the beginning, I think that is what we were all missing when we went to other events held near the same time. There always seemed to be a control and profit motive.

It seems to me that we can all have a great event that continues to
change organically.

Dusty will probably be deep in a move across state lines by next years event. I doubt he will have time to spend organizing the many thing needed. It really is only fair that others who want the event to continue and change, put forth the effort.

Does this sounds reasonable to all?

Theron, the money we send for yearly dues is to run the site, at least that is what I am paying for. Not for someone who renigs on a reservation...Perhaps you can enlighten us as to how much you are involved in our yearly gathering. Dusty is crying about how he fronts the bills, and now it sounds like the SOC is taking a hit..

I for one would like to know what lawyers have to do with a bunch of characters meeting at a hotel and having a good time, and if, Gerd, for example, did something really stupid (we know this is just hypothetical) what do the rest of us or the SOC have to do with that.
Or Kirk for example being there and owning Vintage Speedsters, would have to do with that, because maybe some of us own "Vintage" cars.
Please enlighten us...because we do monthly cruises in So. Cal. and we would like to know how you become responsible for us..

Warren..SNL is "Saturday Night Live" the old days when I think it was Chevy Chase was doing the news and called Jane Curtan "Jane, you ignorant slut" when she said something he didn't agree with...
In the past I put aside $400-500 a year. This year, it only cost $200, which I have yet to put a check in the mail to Dusty. (Sorry Dusty it will go out tomorrow).

My point isn't the money at all. I am happy to return funds to some events. However, I need to do so in donation, not as a sponsor for future events.

My concern is that this site doesn't make any money and can't afford event insurance. I own it and one greedy person who falls down can take my home, the only thing I have. I just can't risk having a SOC event.

If the SOC members want to get together and coordinate an event as many of you So-Cal people have, that is awesome and I would be glad to help as I am sure many of you would as well.

MEMBERS
LET ME MAKE A GUESS
THERON'S POINT ON LAWSUITS IS RIGHT ON. I AM ASSUMING HE IS SPEAKING ABOUT THE AVAILABILTY OF A POST THAT IS USUALLY ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THIS SITE MARKETING A PARTICULAR EVENT. ALLOWS U TO SIGN UP, POST EVENTS U WILL ATTEND, ECT
MAKES THERON LIABLE
VERY LIABLE
I SPEND 6 TO 7 HUNDRED THOUSAND IN LEGAL FEES EACH YEAR DEFENDING LAWSUITS FROM PEOPLE WHO FIND ONE OF OUR BROCHURES IN THEIR FAMILIES HOME EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE NEVER PROVIDED CARE TO THEM.
VINCE, LAWYERS SUE EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF THE TRUTH. DEEP POCKET THEORY.

THERON, U SHOULD HAVE THIS SITE INCORPORATED TO SHIELD U FROM ANY LIABILTY.

REGARDING THE MONEY.
VINCE AND WARREN. TO BOOK ANY EVENT AND GUARENTEE ATTENDANCE U MUST COVER THE COSTS. I AM SURE THIS IS WHAT DUSTY WAS REFERRING TO.

DUSTY IS A VERY HONORABLE PERSON. I DO NOT BELIEVE AND INSIST U DO NOT THINK THIS IS A MONEY ISSUE.

THIS IS A WEST COAST ISSUE REGARDING WHAT WE WANT TO DO. WE DO NOT WANT A DICTATOR ON THE WEST COAST.
HOW MANY EVENTS DO WE HAVE - MANY - ANY ISSUES -NOPE JUST TONS OF FUN

WE NEED TO BE FLEXIBLE AS WE ARE A FAMILY
FAMILY MEMBERS TAKE CARE OF FAMILY MEMBERS
AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME

Theron, I understand your position completely and would do the same thing if I were in your position. Gerd, or whoever that was, spelled this out pretty clear. This is a fun site and there are more people here other than just us west coast malcontents, as someone said. I would certainly hate to lose it as we do seem to have a lot of fun. With that said, there are many regular user's names out their that are missing their happy faces. Must be an oversight on their part. Theron, maybe send a reminder that dues are up? I don't know, that's your call. But Hey everyone, where have you had this much entertainment for this little money?
Dusty, although I'm not a part of this mess, I did see where you asked others to post their idea's on the board so everyone could see.

This negates your statement (Item #1) of your post which is first in this thread. Having organized some rather large events I know it's a headache but you DID ask them to post their thoughts so therefore, I don't see why you're so upset.

This is your statement "We don't need a Poll. We need the folks who want a change to step up to the plate. If you REALLY have a good idea please post it with details and let us ALL consider it and look into it."

Pass the popcorn.

Theron said it best:

"John Leader started this make shift event years ago and did a great job. Then Mike Crouch took over and also did and excellent job, building on what had been started. Dusty, you have done a fine job and continued to grow the fun. Blake and Jen, you are well suited to try to better the event.

All,

I for one think this dog is dead and kicking it any more will not help.

Jen you wanted it, I said I will help. Somebody else said "Book it Dano" and now I think that is about all that is needed. Let me know if you need help with a little "seed money" and we can watch it grow.

PISMO in 2011 or BUST!
One question...Has the Speedster Owners Club split into several divisions? East Coast, West Coast, North and the South. Looks like the West Coasters want it that way.

Theron has a lot to do to recover the damage all ready done to club relations. I recommend that the Speedster Owners Club establish an events chairman to prevent the animosities like the the above from happening.

I personally will not put up with any B.S. such as the above concerning the Fall Run in the Smokies.
Mentaly ill......I sometimes resemble that remark........

Jen is correct. The gathering in Pismo Beach is a bunch of like minded gearheads getting together to bench race and have fun. This website is just a way to communicate and has nothing to do with the gathering.

There is no formal "club" of any such.
Aaron - There is no structure to the SOC group and we want to keep it that way. It is a very loose, like minded group of individuals who have said that we want to get rid of the rigid way of doing things and change it back to the way it used to be. The only one here who has shown an attitude is the guy who tried to dictate how things were going to be run here in the West and when we told him "no more", he went balistic. It has nothing to do with folks in the east, south or north. We are all one group talking on a website. That's it. Many from the east have come west and many have ventured out east. I would like to continue to think that any of us are welcome at any of our gatherings. I am sure that we will see Dusty in Pismo next year. He is too much of a gearhead to miss this madness.
Sorry David, you spend too much time with your kids to lead this band of misfits, and GQ is even worse....
Having 100% Sicilian blood coursing through my veins, means I know something about gangs....
Jimbo is the man...He's not White, Scarier looking than 3 mother F er's and with Gerd as his Jester and me as his "Executioner" will be feared by all on the road....
We just need a Motto, and nothing like "leaving a beautiful corpse"
Warren,

Dusty and I are very good friends. You will not be seeing him at Pismo or returning to the speedsterowners.com. site. I really don't blame him either. The California group (a very few) went to far. You can not please very one, Dusty has always asked for input. Just wait..he will be missed. Most surprisingly to me is that the 70+/- attendees that were pleased did not say a damned word of support. Dusty will not return.
Aaron, I have personally extended my sincere thanks to Dusty and Sharon for their work making the Morro Bay gatherings a wonderful experience for me. I have done this one on one with Dusty, and publicly on the Speedster Owners site in numerous postings. I don't talk behind his or anyone's back. I have also personally heard numerous participants at Morro Bay give thanks and accolades to Dusty for his efforts. And if you take the time to read the threads about Morro Bay there are many posts with thanks for his efforts also. And I really don't need you telling me what is what regarding an event that you have never attended. I have had dealings with Dusty on a business and personal level and I am puzzled by his reaction to this situation. If he chooses to disassociate himself from this group for what ever reason, that is his choice.
I believe I said a damned word of support. He did an awsome job and asked for input for the next one. It got a little out of hand but he really shouldn't take himself so seriously. I believe the good far out weighs the bad in this group. I am sorry he got his panties all bunched up over a group conscious decision discussed in past posts, He was welcome to agree or disagree but he dosen't have to take his ball and go home. He himself said this was the best car "club" he's ever been involved in, I guess only if he was the Guru.......
